Hey man, on a gearing calculator I've found the RX-8 is supposed to redline around 94mph in 3rd gear, is that right? I'm pretty sure the last one I drove that hard hit at least 90mph in 3rd, but maybe I'm mistaken?!? One of the guys on here is saying he has to shift into 4th at the end of the 1/4 mile, but is only trapping at 83-84mph, I'm thinking he's just short shifting before redline... what do you think?
lol i'm not to sure... never paid a hole lot of attention... I'm thinking probably close to the 90 though, cause i know when i had mine i'm come hauling off the highway onto an onramp and downshift to 3rd and the revs would be way up there... If i get a chance in a few i'll check it out :-)
Thanks buddy lol, be sure to bounce it off the rev limiter haha, and try not to get a ticket [img]http://coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img] If only there were more open roads for "testing" purposes around there lol.
ok so with traffic this test was a little hard... But as i was driving out to get onto the highway, i was playing around a little bit and it looks like for every 1000 rpm you go (so from 3000 to 4000 to 5000) the car in 3rd is good for 10 MPH. so for 3000=30 4000=40 5000=50 ect... basically once i got up on the highway and got a chance to get on it for a second, that holds true to the fact. I didn't get to "bounce" it off the rev limiter, but in 3rd gear, at 9100RPM, i was going 92. So hopefully that answer's your question!
So yes, in fact the RX-8 should hit at least 90mph in 3rd gear, meaning, next time you're at the track, there should be no shift into 4th necessary, at least not at a high altitude track like Bandi that robs so much power. Still, don't let that discourage you from picking up gears, as if you eventually go FI, you'll need to shift into 4th anyway, so might as well get shorter gears to begin with lol.
