So it just never ends.
I went to the shop that's doing my front fenders today and test fit one of them. It's gonna be awesome! That's not the bad part.
The bad part is when I got home, I got up into the driveway and took the car out of gear, disabled the alarm and opened the garage door, and tried to put the car back into gear...no luck. I tried forcing it into gear and it started moving the car and killed it. Yep, the clutch pedal no longer disengages the clutch plate. As I'm not leaking any fluid, I'm assuming the clutch fork is broken, which happens quite often on our cars. Either that or the throwout bearing is bad.
Also, my Synapse BOV now sounds like my old Tial BOV with too much air pressure for some reason. It sounds cool but it shouldn't sound the way it does now.

Are you talking about the part on the bearing where the clutch fork goes through? The part the fork puts pressure on is pretty stout though. I thought it might be the same thing but they look like they're in good shape. The problem seems to be with the ring setup that the bearing hooks into on the inside of the plate, as much as I hate admitting that haha. I think I might just man up and drop the cash on a twin plate with my deployment money, but I need to fix this issue for the summer.

Almost everyone making real horsepower on an FD runs an Exedy Twin disc. Comes with a flywheel and is $1600:

Carbonetics makes good rear ends but I've heard their clutches aren't the best- definitely not up to Exedy's standards.

So Zico and I pulled the tranny last night. The only thing I found messed up was a completely destroyed roller bearing/pilot bearing. I'm trying to figure out how that could keep it from disengaging but I guess it was. Everything else I've looked at looks just fine. In any case, I had already ordered a new/upgraded clutch fork, new throwout bearing (both from Malloy Mazda)...after I saw what was bad I ordered a new roller bearing and seal from Mazdatrix last night. I'm going to inspect the pressure plate closer to make sure it's good, and if the problem persists I may just get a new master cylinder. At that point pretty much everything else will have been replaced haha.
Also, I don't remember if I posted about this, but a while back I had run the engine with the turbo and manifold off, and confirmed that it was indeed the turbo that was leaking oil. I could even see some oil on the turbo itself where it leaked out between the CHRA and turbine housing. I saw some turbos on RCC that were for sale, and I talked to one of the guys and he was able to figure out what CHRA I needed and after I paid $1145 for it the other day, (I know, YIKES) he sent me the CHRA balanced with wheels and all, so all I'll need to do is put my housings on and drop the turbo and manifold back in. So hopefully no smokey and all powa!
I also installed the new EGT sensor and it's working, so no more problems there either!
It's finally coming together, right as I'm about to leave again haha.

I do not really care for the Exedy twin-disc, they are heavy and break too often IMHO, and they are $$. For not much more, you can get an OS Giken or Tilton setup and forget about having issues.

Well like I said before, I'm not sure about borrowing a turbo LOL. I was going to lend a tranny to someone in NC one time so he could race one weekend. But to me, a turbo is a completely different story haha.
I might still get a twin plate clutch while I'm deployed, but I'm incurring more and more expenses every day and I'm not sure if I'll have enough deployment money to make the rounds. If I can figure out this clutch and make it work, maybe it will hold at least until my next deployment, most likely next year haha.
I didn't know parts stores could get pilot bearings. I already ordered it from Mazdatrix the other night though. But maybe I'll get another one for a spare haha.
