I have an underdrive pulley. NO ISSUES. The engine might transmit a few more vibrations due to the lighter pulley not soaking them up (even though my engine is balanced internally), but I have 88 durometer polyurethane motor mounts- so I've got vibrations anyway.
Voltmeter on my radar detector reads 14.4 volts (+.2/-2.2) depending on electrical load. But after the load stabilizes (like when you first turn on the headlights, blower motor, A/C...) the voltage goes back up. A/C still blows plenty cold. Car does not overheat.
However, the car is now much more responsive to throttle inputs (even though I have an auto) and some of the low end torque I lost with the 4-1 header was regained (butt dyno confirmation only). Very good mod, IMO.
A new vendor out of Utah, Medieval Motorsports (mazdas247.com name Medieval), (of which I have a set of accessory pulleys from) is making OE sized crank pulleys for Proteges and possibly the 3/6 crowd. Gather enough interest for the 8 and he would probably be interested in producing some.
