Cobb AccessPort Tuned by: Mazdamaniac

Postby *DarthRX8* » Mon Apr 20, 2009 9:14

Over the past few months I have been in the process of getting my 8 tuned By: MazdaManiac (Jeff Abrams) using the Cobb AccessPort.

The process has been a little slow (Nov 08 to Present), but since I bought my AP from him the tuning came at no additional charge (can't complain there, $300.00 value).

The very first tune I received was a base tune (v4_0_1) that worked fine, but had my AFRs very rich (10.4 at WOT). This past week while I was deployed I received my close to final if not final tune (v4_0_6) from Mr. MM. I flashed my 8 this morning and drove to work and all I can say is WOW!!!

If you own an RX8 and don't have an AP, I highly recommend buying one and if you buy one, buy it from Jeff (mazdamaniac.com). Not only will your 8 get a much needed performance boost, but his tunes also help with rough idle, turning on your fans sooner, oil injectors and more. His tunes are also custom to your 8 and the mods that you have.

Just wanted to spread the word on my success story! :D

Thanks! I am so stoked :)

I can't wait to get off of work and drive home. Also might have to make a trip to the grocery store tonight. If anyone has any good excuses to tell HouseHold 6 let me know.

Dump out all the milk then say you have to go get more. Or just straight up say, "Hey, I'm going for a ride. Be back whenever!"

Congrats on the tune from MM. I'm still running a modified Cobb tune at this point, and doubt I'll spring for the "upgrade". Cobb basically tuned my car while we were testing, as they kept writing and rewriting maps and sending them over to the shop.

I am sure that your Cobb tune is just as good :) When I bought the AP initially from MM it was a pain in the butt to get him data (this was before the data logging feature). Once I could data log and get him correct info everything else was easy (well for me, since I didn't do anything).

I don't think you need to upgrade unless you go catless or FI.

Dumping out the milk sounds like a good idea... It was only like 1.99 a gallon at King Soopers the other day.

Oh and Happy B-Day Rich!

That's nice. I would have gotten another AP already but things came up. I'll just wait till I finish saving for a TK. Would get one now but want to wait and see if there will be any development with being able to tune the esmeril kit with the AP.

MM does good work.... He's a good guy.... and not cause he's Greek....

Yeah, I think there is someone on the RX8 club that is trying the esmeril kit and having Jeff tune it?

I would love to drop the coin for FI (that Hymee Supercharger looks FN sweet!), but it is just too much money to build and then maintain. I'll just wait for the next rotary powered mazda.

Back on track; this morning while I was driving to work I was amazed at how my 8 climbs so much smoother and quicker to 9500 rpms with this new tune combined with my BHR ignition. It is freakin awesome!!!! :)

Got my last tune last night and reflashed this morning on my way to work.

AFRs at WOT were all in the 12s!!! I will need a couple more driving cycles to ensure everything else is good, but it looks like I am DONE!

Kinda sad accually. Now I have no reason to check my yahoo email every 5 seconds :(

Haha! Congrats! I guess I should plug in my AP and see if there are any FW updates, not that I tool around with it in the car that often.

LOL... I remember checking my e-mail for a new tune every 5 minutes. It was worse than waiting for the UPS guy and checking out the window everytime the dogs barked.
