I hadn't driven the car in a while, and heard the tell tale "creak" that appears to be so predictive of clutch pedal failure. Since I have the support bracket from Mazsport installed, I was fairly confident that this wasn't the case. I also noticed a rather suspect amount of free play. I sandwiched myself under the dash, and sure enough, the nuts connecting the entire bracket to the firewall were loose. Finger loose, and the bracket had pulled away from the firewall slightly. I am 100% positive that I torqued to spec when I reassembled last fall.
This is mainly a heads up to other 8 owners that the deadly creak sound that others have pointed to failing brackets MAY simply be the nuts on the support coming loose. Use a little loctite or some other thread locker on them if you find this to be the case.
I adjusted everything back into spec and have a happy car again.
Clutch pedal creak? Check yer nuts.
