That is correct. THe best way to describe a parachute is to relate it to a car. If the weight (i.e you and your instructor) suspended under the parachute is the motor and the size of the parachute itself is the size of the car (or weight of the car), than the bigger the motor and samller the car, the faster it is at landing. They only make the tandem parachutes so big and it also become a safty issue for instructor. There is however, a little bit of room to work with but it is up to the instructor. And no, there are no minimums.

Is it 2 miles above the earth (AGL- above ground level), or 2 miles ASL (above sea level)? I'd guess that if the jump zone is in Longmont, that's about 5,000 feet already. Add another 10,500 feet to that and you get into issues where the pilot of the plane needs to be on oxygen in an unpressurized plane.

I'm interested. The timing may not be the greatest though.[/b]

It alltitude is AGL and it not and issue. Long exposure at 16000' ASL you can develop hypoxia (depending on experience), but you are not at the elevation for very long. I mean if you think about it, at the top of Pikes Peak it is just over 14,000' and you will definatly be short of breath but still can breath. The highest jump that I ever made was 24,000' feet AGL (about 25,500 ASL) and we had oxygen masks only above 16000'. We would do what they call pre breath, on oxygen from 16,000- 24,000 and when it was time to jump, you jump. Your body takes about 1 minute to deplete the oxygen from your blood stream, by the time you hit that point you are back in good air. That jump was over 2 minutes of freefall (128 seconds if I recall corectly), and it felt like an eternity.

It really doesn't matter to me. The best way to make a skydive is with all your friends. It is something that everyone who does it will always remember who they went with. Can one of the MODERATORS move my album in the gallery? I put it in the wrong placem, sorry.
