Mazda 3 Hatchback capacity

Postby geo2maz » Thu Dec 20, 2012 9:14

Hate posting such a dumb question, but need to figure out if it's even possible or if i need to find an alternative...

On Sunday I need to pickup some relatives, in my hatchback, they are:
Myself, then 2 Adults & 2 Childrenz's, + 3 large suitcases & 1 small suitcase

Will it be possible to fit everyone + luggage? or should i try to borrow something bigger?

sounds like a lovely world problem from 6th grade.
If geo has 3 apples and gives... (trails off)

BOT: no clue, but it sounds like it might be tight. worst case you
could go for it and have luggage resting on peep's laps. I guess
it depends on how long the ride is....

Hmmm I don't think you will be able to fit 3 large suitcases in there. You might though. The people, assuming the kids are old enough not to require high chairs should fit with the small suitcase with the passenger upfront. Or on top of the kids.

Edit - how large are these large suitcases. Can they pass as carry on for adults? If they can pass as carry-ons they should all fit.

You can do eet!

Advisable? Not if you can help it.
Possible? Absolutely.

I've had myself and 5 adults in my car (don't ask, it was a horrible experience)...and yes (Alex) I also did some late night pulls on I-25.

Children are skinny and flexible, they'll be fine.
You'd probably have to remove that cover in the trunk...

Godspeed.

Geo, I think you will be okay. Any chance of putting anything on the roof?

I'm not saying the physics behind everybody (and everything) fitting, isn't sound; it's just likely to get uncomfortable relatively quickly for the adult (ok-okay and the kids...) in the back.

If you want to borrow my 'Burban Alain, you totally can. Que hora on Sunday?

Alain what time on Sunday? I'm dropping my cousin off at the airport at 8 am ish. Maybe sooner. I'll either have the bronco or her Jeep Cherokee. If they are coming about that time we can stuff the bags with me.

I think they are the standard big ones, (too big for carry-on)

Probably not, but may have to lol..

Thanks so much for the offer! I may take you up on it, but first i'm going to check with my mom's boyfriend to see if his truck might be avail that day... Will let you know asap, it would be at 10:30am, from the airport to downtown, then a quick lunch... (I'd gas-up your burb of course)

Thanks for the offer, but they'll be coming in later at 10:30

I'm going to test out the space today with my own luggage to see how realistic it is...

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I'm going to be driving my grandpa and grandma to the airport on Sunday morning as well, and I'm guessing it'll be in my grandpa's RX400h. I'm not sure when exactly they're leaving yet, but if it's around the same time as I'd have to bring the RX back to my grandpa's house in Cherry Creek anyways so downtown isn't really out of the way.
