What was your biggest ricer mod?

Postby Regulator » Wed Dec 12, 2012 9:14

So I got to thinking about the dumb modifications I have added to my cars over the years.. and looking back on them now I am ashamed.

My worst mod had to be my fake chrome door handles on my first Mazda 6. Every time you opened the door you could feel the cheapness of the cover trying to rip away from the car.. it was embarrassing to me and everyone else who sat in my car.

So lets read it, whats the worst you got?!

I had an offset stripe on my old black rx. I also had it painted safety blue at one point.

On my first car ('95 Escort 2-door hatch), I had it lowered by getting the springs heated and compressed. It bounced like a mofo and when I eventually traded it in and put some replacement stock springs on it, I saw the original springs were all twisted and mangled. Also I had them cut off the muffler and weld a giant tip on the stock pipe. I thought it was awesome at the time, but I was young and stupid and didn't know there were actual mods like aftermarket springs and exhaust.

My only two mods have been stereo equipment and gas hood struts for the Legacy, so I guess that? I never had the money to do stupid stuff. And I was mostly out of the ricer stage by the time I started driving. Freshman year of high school I wanted a Civic Si that I wanted to lower and put lambo doors on. Thank god I realized that was stupid beyond belief before I got my license.

When I was on the FSAE team in college, we always had to have the most ridiculous brakelight. So I designed and built one that was a little bigger than a quarter and temporary blinded you if you looked at it directly within about 5 feet. However, I forgot to factor in the heat generated by the LEDs, so in the middle of a competition in Germany, I had to hack on a heatsink to prevent it from discoloring the acyclic housing while in grid. Explaining to the judges why our brakelight had a heatsink was an interesting experience.

Wait, competition in Germany?!? Where did you go to school that you guys went to competition in Germany? I'm on the FSAE team at my school and we only do Michigan and Lincoln.

Le efffff you :p I have a feeling things like our coefficient of lift being 1.3 on last year's car (yes, a positive 1.3) aren't helping.
