so im bored and this was always fun at other forums. i am kinda a zombie subject matter expert as they are my favorite horror movie/book topic

anyway.
what zombie canon are you basing this on? (avoiding special types of mutations because thats even a far stretch for zombie fantasy, i tried to give a movie to remind you of the type)
im guessing most will go for typical zombies or The Generic Zombie/resident evil/walking dead canon: basic slow moving reanimated already dead zombie no immunities, headshot or spine only kills

but depending what you are a fan of there are also others like
the crazies/28days canon: Human-like; higher endurance movement, they're not dead, they're infected by blood-borne "rage" virus, they're don't eat people - just attack and kill them, the infected can die of starvation (then stay dead) victim turns into an "infected" in seconds, killed by anything that would kill a human
lfd canon: quick moving shambler zombie, however you are one of the few immune. killed by anything that would kill a human but feel no fear or pain so slightly more difficult.
intelligent zombies/i am legend canon: fast moving, humanlike, just reverted to "zombie" state. ability to plan, trap and work in groups. killed by anything that would kill a human but have self preservation so will run and hide.

what are your plan incase SHTF, bug out? barricade? let the military take care of it? team up or one man zombie killing machine?
what is in your bugout bag?
weapon choices?
transportation?
hiding place/homebase?

I haven't exactly thought this out. Do zombies swim? If the don't, I'd probably go for a swim then.

The only movie that I've seen (of the above), was I am Legend. I enjoyed it.

Yes! Love this thread. I too am a zombie fan/fanatic and have thought all this out a number of times when drinking with buddies. Good times and good arguments over different scenarios etc.

Barricade for sure. Bugging out is risky, especially early on. Bugging out to a more secure/safe location is for later imo. Ideally I would love to barricade myself and a select group of other reliable survivors in a Costco. Now hear me out as to why. In my scenario this is a quick outbreak type of infection giving people little to no time to loot and pillage supplies, so Costco should be pretty well untouched. Costco provides everything but weapons and ammo which myself and the selected other will have plenty of to fend until we can venture out for resupply. Think about it. Costco has an automotive center to keep vehicles working, gas, food, medicine, and much more. Thinking of the one near me, it has no windows, few doors, and is easily locked down. And heck, you can easily create a fatal funnel at the entrance with pallets of TV's and large items you won't be needing. Keep them at least contained if you have a breach. That's the basics of my barricade situation.

This list is based on my barricade situation so mobility is not a problem with all this gear.

But, if there is time to say skip the whole Costco bit a friend of mine has a really nice cabin up in Lake George that would be perfect I feel for a more secluded and well defensible location. If the Costco scenario were to happen, the cabin would be the place to eventually make it to.

Sort of off topic.... but if you happen to be a member of Front Range Gun Club....
They have a Zombie Night in October. They setup a course out on the floor (one person gets to be out at a time) and you get to navigate through walls/barriers in a sort of maze to shoot zombie targets (in the head). The course is in the dark, with strobe lights, fog, music/sound fx and some Zombies!

Military, hell no. Barricade for sure. I think vehicle retrofit and home retrofit would be first.

colombia i love the costco idea.
Im glad so far noone is the chainsaw/katana people. worst weapon choice ever. bloodspatter can get in your eyes/nose/mouth causing infection. plus it leaves you in biterange. hell id rather not even use a shotgun still a bit too close. also a standard issue is the "my dog will protect me" you have different zombie types so you have different outcomes. first time dog bites a zombie you have to put it down. before IT gets infected. or 2 if only humans are infected then dog is fine but now covered in the infection so it contacts you. and you are screwed. only scenario that works is the lfd immune zombie scenario.


mine. standard zombie canon.

tactics: short barricade untill i can get a few people together and then bugout.
group up with fellow zombie fanatics/gun nuts. as hard as it would be its best to beable to have a guard or guards 24/7 pulling 360 security in shifts. power in numbers. so its best to have a few infantry/people that know tactics + a medic as a killteam/scavengers. and a few to guard the homebase. as it will be anarchy between zombies posing a threat, and other survivors wanting to take over supplies. a team of 10 would probably be the best enough to protect and guard without fatigue, yet few enough to not worry too much about logistics like food. if taking over a costco logistics become less of a concern. plenty of space and food to get started. however hierarchy and potential hidden infections becomes an issue.

bug out bag(s): 3 day need to run bag:
mre's powerbars. waterpurification tabs, solar/windup amfmcb radio with lamp. snowboard/skiing gps locator beacon. survival kit including matches, signal mirror, fishhooks, fishline, zippo w/ spare fluid, first aid pouch. 550 (parachute) cord instead of rope. a small tarp (either shelter or rain collection) and my SOG sealpup that was given to me by a navy seal. along with an e-tool/hatchet. spare ammo/mags/containers

extended duffelbag/toughbox: after coming home/raiding sporting goods store to go in the vehicle:
tarp, backpacking tent, radio transmitter. sleeping bags. both my medical aid bags, night vision. plenty of batteries. full set of motorcycle leathers,(protection against bites and scratches) gasmask (blood spatter protection) spare food, jerrycans of water. and extras of everything in the bugout bag.

weapon choices
shotgun. remington 870 tactical. or benelli supernova preferably 20guage( lighter smaller ammo = carry more and less people will clean out 20guage as everyone is going for 12. works great in mobs. and a scattergun even if its not a killing shot will knock down and potentially immobilize
pistol: walther p22 with silencer, light/laser combo and subsonic rounds.. i can carry 1000 rounds easier than you can carry 50rounds of .45acp .22 has enough power to enter the skull but not exit so it bounces around turning the brain into swiss cheese and effectively stopping the zombie. larger round with "stopping power" isnt going to do anything special because headshot is the only way to kill anyway..
and a subsonic round from a silenced .22 isnt going to draw any attention from zombies or hostile survivors, hell the rack of the slide is louder than the gunshot.
long range rifle. i do like the ruger 10/22 shares ammo with the pistol so i can carry more usefull ammo vs carrying 3 types, light, reliable and accurate up til the ranges you need.
or an AR i have the mags and loadbearing equip for carry 210 rounds. either standard 5.56 or a .22 conversion for the same reasoning behind the ruger

transportation. i do have the wagoneer. 4x4 suv with lots of loading capabilities however fuel quickly becomes an issue.
so ideally steal a diesel 4x4 pickup. easy to armor. ground clearance. and if we do secure a costco as home base. you can run straight veggie oil. or make biodiesel.
otherwise as bad as the mpg is, a semi/firetruck makes alot of sense. can carry lots of provisions, a semi is a mobile home. both have the power to push abandoned vehicles out of the way. firetrucks can either carry drinking water or fill the tank with fuel.

Hiding place. I do like the costco idea. usually have loading docks for ease of bugging out. limited windows, thick concrete walls. steel doors can be welded shut, and the leftover semis. are great for loading up and heading out if need be. for scavenge vehicles, or to just siphon fuel from... costco's quite often have a fuel station. lots of usefull stuff. like tents etc to cordon off a sleeping area. waterpurification systems, metal shelves to create vehicle armor. clothing. all the canned food. however frozen foods are a bad thing. they start rotting. and draw zombies otherwise just really stink up the place if left inside. hell you could even plan long term. if you have fuel they have generators, so you can afford an hour of fuel once a week to run a tv and dvd player for "movie night" morale is always good!, enough room after segregating storage areas vs living areas to have your own little colony. multiple scavenge teams, people to work and pull security on the roof etc.
the cons. most the time located in a densely populated area. meaning more zombies, and because of its storage calls out to hostile survivors that want to kill you and take your supplies. best situation would be meeting in a smaller area such as castlerock big enough for a costco but low enough population you aren't fighting off an unending hoard like you would denver.

otherwise if you have to leave. best place to be is probably somewhere with permafrost inorder to freeze and immobilize or at least slow zombies. and plenty of water for drinking. best for flatground vs woodland. because woodland visibility is short.

Walmart has lots of ammo and food. Maybe even Bass Pro Shop. LOTS AND LOTS of ammo and guns + OK amount of food and survival tools.

+1 Batman. Costco definitely makes an argument, but "The Bro Shop" is amazing. Wouldn't have the food provisions like a place like Costco, but other than that, it would be stocked with more useful stuff I'd think.

I always thought Dragon Man's in C Springs would be a good choice. Maybe not for the food, but you KNOW he has all the weapons and ammo you'd need HAHA.

Having given this some thought I gotta say I'd go with the notion of a bunch of .22s for firepower. A subsonic .22 has been a favorite of spy agencies for a long time for good reason. Decaying flesh gives way easily and you're not going to be taking down targets with any kind of armor. They can be easily silenced and are light. Ammo is readily available and other people are likely to go for a higher caliber weapon. I'd keep a shotgun around for backup and a good, accurate rifle for long range work, but I suspect that most of my shots would be taken with something lower caliber. Hell, a really high power BB gun might do most of what you'd need and would be even more portable. As for location, I'd raid a sporting goods store or wal-mart and then hole up in a Costco. I like the idea of having few entry and exit points, usually with very heavy metal doors. Long sight lines and a tall roof only add to the appeal. They're also usually located in places that have access to other useful stores like Home Depot, Sears, etc. Most importantly, you'd never run out of toilet paper. For transport, it'd be a toss-up between our Honda Odyssey (good mileage, reliable, lots of room) and my '71 Bronco (drives over anything including other cars, easy to fix, super durable).

I've been looking for a used Cadillac Escalade. I want to black it out, lift it, put big ### tires on it, crash bars, skid plates, a cage and lights on top. The whole shee-bang. Then I need someone to help me come up with a logo so I can have it say "Zombie Apocalypse Response Team" or something of that nature.

Why an Escalade? Just to piss off the Mexicans and black dudes.

So I just got a scope (6-24x)for the AR today so I can take out zombies from a distance before they get too close. Because it's hard to see what I hit at 100yds+
