Cancelling the Evo, say it ain't so!!!!!!

Postby Operator » Fri Mar 04, 2011 9:14

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/02/report-mitsubishi-official-says-evo-franchise-is-dead/

According to Gayu Eusegi, head of global product development for Mitsubishi, the Lancer Evolution X will be the last Evo the Japanese automaker ever builds. Eusegi says the move is part of a shift in strategy to put the company's product focus and ethos on leadership in EV technology.

1st Volvo stops selling station wagons in the US now Mitsubishi comes out with this...... WOW!

Wow, that sucks. I wonder if Subaru will kill the STi, or if they'll see a spike in sales since it's pretty much the Evo's only direct competitor.

subaru has already released news about an sti redesign so I think we are safe there. I'm way more upset about the lack of volvo wagons, evo X was probably the ugliest jap car in a long long time.

Ugliest IDK (The Eclipse 1999-present).... The new look has grown on me but it still doesn't have that EVO/RallyCross feel/look to it anymore. That probably hurt sales.

this may just be me but a lot of the new cars are going so round and curby I confuse some with bugs. the new accord is horrible looking as with most hondas. I honestly prefer cars made in the 80's and 90's. the evo and sti were some of the only cars staying with a basic design and tweaking it not starting from scratch.

Sad to see car companies pandering so much to the wishes of liberal politicians thinking they're going to save the world.

Agreed about the Volvo wagons. They have so much potential to be awesome platforms. Glad to hear that the STi will be around at least a little longer. I'll be curious to see how it evolves in the absence of real competition.

Well so far the STi has been evolving in the wrong direction imo. It's gotten much softer and less mean with this new generation. So I hope they don't completely ruin it when they have no direct competitor.

Agreed. I don't mind the hatchback STi but the last more "raw" STi was the 04-05's I believe (I am by no means a Subaru expert however).

It's the same cycle every auto maker takes with their cars...they make a clean sheet sports car that is raw, a pure drivers car, no frills and just about speed and handling. A real sports car. It goes to market, does well, but then the general public clambers for this and that and pretty soon the car is an underpowered (generally), inflated, overweight pig that is stupidly overpriced.

The one except could be the Mazda Miata, a pure sports car that has really only developed due to age and technology and not frills.

Yea, they need to make a Mazdaspeed NC Miata though. Put the DISI motor from the MS3/MS6/CX7 in there and ZOOM ZOOM ftw.
