All hail King Nep-tune and his water breathers...

Postby ~Barn~ » Thu Dec 30, 2010 9:14

Image ... no snail thing too quick for his water feeders. Image

Shout out to all you Gorillaz fans out there....

So anyway, "The Misses" is back from Groove Mazda, and returned to her usual pissed off self. All hail Kenny B., the Service Manager over at Groove, and his mastermind behind the wrenches, Dan.

Now the weather today precluded me from finding areas North of triple digits like I wanted to, but you could just feel it. Things were breathing again. Dan deadpans to me when I pick it up: Dude... It's running really good. And gives me this knowing look that said plain as day "Yeah... I tested the shit out of this earlier, before the snow started." Ha!

Hopefully we'll get this nuisance snow melted off in not too long, and I can take a proper drive up to The Ameristar or something. For now she sits coiled. Potential Energy. Image

Special thanks to Nate and Tim and 'Bot for all coordinating sweetly and helping me get some stock parts back, and getting me a new Synapse BPV!

I'll do my best to pay it forward!

Yeah man. This isn't the first time these guys have impressed me with their troubleshooting prowess, quick turnaround, and genuine helpfulness and professionalism. I'm a particular customer, who threw them a mostly vague problem to figure out and fix. And not to mention on an engine with a bunch of bolt-on shit!

The more I come here, the more I realize that it's well worth it. They have my business in perpetuity.

haha i love Gorillaz, they just released a special album on christmas "The Fall", they put it together in 30 days using Ipad's, it's full of Gorillaz-goodness, but not as deep as their studio stuff...

glad you got it fixed!

I'm really surprised MAC couldn't figure out the problem was the BPV wasn't holding boost. Although didn't you say they suggested changing it out with an HKS?

He did want to sell me an HKS, but never offered me any compelling reasons or rhymes why. I saw a bunch of them in their display case, so I guess they did have them in stock.

But hey... When you don't really volunteer anything, communication wise, it's hard for me to help them troubleshoot, and make choices (as the customer) that lead to a result. MAC's ongoing failures - it seems to me - are related to the things that they don't and won't do, and really nothing about what they're capable of. All's well that ends well, though.

Yup- sounded as though it was a sales pitch, more than anything else.

At least Groove took the time to figure stuff out, then point the culprit/s-

Besides, HKS sucks anyway ;)

What was the issue with the Synapse? Did the spring fail, or was it just a general fail? I am assuming since you put a new one on that it wasn't a design flaw.

I don't know, I've seen a couple failed synapse valves just on this forum. My hks has been on my car for almost 5 years of worry free operation, and I beat the crap out of my car.

um...this was the only failed completely synapse I've ever heard of...I've ran one for a while and had the same issue that regulator had, but it didn't cause me to not hold boost, the tensioner spring disintegrated and I just pulled the pieces out and called it a day. No problems with it since.

On another note, the new valve they have looks bad ***!

Not entirely sure. I know that the plunging mechanism on the faulty one, seemed "sticky" in my (admittedly unfamiliar) opinion. I doubt it's a design flaw thing. I bought the BPV used, and like everything else in the auto world, things wear out. Between me and the previous owner, let's just say I doubt it was babied!

My car is fast is flock now though, with the new one on. Spool is mad fast, boost is holding nicely, and really... I've just been proving it over the past few days on stock ECU settings, and it's been a beast.

Time to get a tune back on!

Hey Talbot, can you still fix this old BPV, like you mentioned?
