Printed License Plate - Bad Idea?

Postby Colombia28 » Fri Nov 05, 2010 9:14

Question and part rant below:

Ever since i'v had my license i have never once ran a front license plate and have never been hassled about it. But as of recent the city of Boulder (not Boulder PD), but the fing Boulder Parking Management "Enforcers" have been writing me "no front plate" tickets as if they were giving me candy. I am forced on occasion to park on the street outside my apartment every now and then when the lot fills up. I honestly don't know where my front plate is, probably buried in the basement at my house in HR, and i don't have time to go get it with school and work, nor do i really intend to put it on anyway.

But my question is if say i were to photoshop a CO license plate with my reg numbers and place it on the front bumper when i have to park on the street would that be illegal? I don't need to give them a reason to tow my car or write me some BS outrageous fine, but it's getting really rediculous that every time i get to my car i find yet another BS ticket. I got three (THREE! (3) ) "no front plate" tickets the last three days and in that time i never once drove or even looked at the car. I mean it's BS that they can give you a ticket for the same thing three days in a row when the car has never moved, leading a sensible individual to perhaps think that the owner isn't aware of the problems let alone the tickets hes now gathering.

Now before you say it's their job ect. I know first hand it's their job, i used to work for the parking enforcement department of CU my freshman year. I was one of those ***'s that gave students tickets and such. But never once did i, or would i give a plate ticket. I was supposed to but never had the hypocritical heart to. I also personally think plate related tickets should be handled only by state organizations (eg. police), not city organizations. I can't believe they have the right to give me a ticket regarding a state issue imo.

So while i get three tickets for not having a front plate, the guy three cars ahead of me parked on the curb, blocking part of a driveway, and touching the rear bumper of the car ahead of me is ticket-less. "Now Andrew they clearly didn't see that or else he would have been ticketed too." Not true, his (rather her) car was parked that way the very morning my car was issued yet another bs ticket. It was in fact parked that way all day. Good job Boulder.

Thanks for listening to my rant. So is the printed plate a bad idea?

Also, isn't it a moving violation and thus a parked car should not be given a ticket for no front plate?

No front plate is NOT a moving violation. If you park in downtown Denver, you WILL get a ticket for no front plate. In fact, I was pulled over a while back and given a speeding ticket and the cop never made a mention of the front plate not being installed.

My thoughts on parking enforcement are well known. Can't stand the cash cow jerks.

it's super-duper-illegal to print one out, considered forgery...
I feel your pain though, that sucks! (I got ticketed/booted for no front plate while parked dowtown, my friend once got towed OUT OF HIS OWN PARKING SPOT, in his apartments because the parking people were being jerks about him not having a front plate...)

Here's my stance on it (gonna be the antagonist here) put a front plate on and that's the end of it. I know a lot of people don't believe in the front plate, but really what does it hurt having it? Ur not gonna see a performance drop or anything. Sure you might not like the way it looks but it's the law. I know people that don't like the way a seat belt feels but wear em cause it's the law. It's one thing to oppose it cause you bought your car in another state and might have to drill into your car to add a bracket (slim chance on winning that one by the way) but every car, new and used, sold in colorado have a front plate bracket. Just slap it on and you won't have to worry about tickets anymore. My 89 Trans Am didn't have a bracket but I added one just so I wouldn't have to deal with this issue.

And yes a printed plate is very illegal.

That's how I feel Renesis. I ran without a front plate on my SRT4 for a while but eventually got pulled over for that and exhaust, so I put one on. Was hesitant in putting one on the MS3 also after I first got it but put the bracket back on after my temp tag ran out. It's just not worth the extra attention, and it really doesn't look THAT bad. Everyone else has a front plate too so it's not like you're an outcast with an ugly car if you have one.

That said, I still haven't put the front plate bracket on my Miata and when I got pulled over the one time in it the cop didn't even mention it. I'll get around to putting it on one of these days. I don't even know if it has holes drilled or not as it was an out of state car before.

Thanks for letting me know the printed idea is not a good idea. I was so frustrated about it, it was the only thing i could think of at the time considering my front plate is nowhere close to me.

Not running one for me is not a performance gain, lol, i'm seriously concerned about the added drag ;) . I just personally hate them and don't see a reason for them outside of some nonsense state law. What really is getting me upset about this whole situation is that it would still to this day be a non-issue if i didn't on very rare occasions have to park on the street. Outside of that it would still be no problem (granted still illegal).

I bought the tow plate from SU for $50. It's cheaper than a no plate ticket.

Hell, I got a no plate ticket in Denver when the meter maid was too lazy to bother to see my CP-e tow plate. Dumbass.

I'd like to see a source on printed plate being illegal. Obviously printing a bogus plate would be, but what about printing your OWN plate number?
