BJ's: http://www.bjsrestaurants.com/locations/co/aurora

Beer is okay-ee
Overall atmosphere: decent- it's nice enough and easy-going

I had the jalapeno burger. The flavor of the burger was good, nice and smokey. The fried jalapenos added a nice touch. Shoestring fries were also rather delightful.

I will, go...back.

This is as good a place as any to put this:

So I was at Hodson’s. The food was quite good. I believe I had the sliders and something else…but that’s beside the point. Moving on…

After eyeing their limited selection of draft beers, I opted for the Lefthand Sawtooth. For no other reason than most people don’t have it, and it had been quite some time since I’d had one- so I proceeded to order one. Let me say this though: I’ve never had it on draught (pronounced: ‘draft’). I clearly said “Lefthand Sawtooth” and there were no other options that could have been confused with that.

Anywho…the drink arrived and it was settling like a Guinness. I was like, wtf? Upon tasting it, it was reminiscent of what I remember Sawtooth tasting like. Amber/woody, light brown in color. But…it was much less carbonated and finished smooth, NOT all bitter like it normally does. In the name of science, I quickly downed it and ordered another (again, purely for experimentation purposes). I said, “I’ll have another Sawtooth please”. The beer came back again, same story… looked like a light brown Guinness, tasted like Sawtooth- but without all of its failing attributes.

The next weekend, I pick up a 6’er of Sawtooth. Get home and pour it in a glass, eagerly expecting the same experience. Buuuuttt…no-h. It poured like normal, was overly carbonated, was bitter and overly woody. I dumped it out, Fack.

Riddle me this, what in the world did I drink? I’m ‘this’ close to going back to Hodson’s…

Thanks for the input. But I'm quite certain that wasn't it. Iirc, milk stouts are dark and sweet. .not to be confused with a light brown and slightly bitter(?)

Hmmm....but does it settle like a Guinness? I have never seen that before... you know, the 'avalanche effect' where it curdles.

It was probably on a nitro tap, instead of CO2. http://www.craftbeer.com/craft-beer-muses/good-beer-gas-nitro-beers-explained

It's pretty amazing how the nitro transforms beer into a velvety carpet of delicious liquid.

Very interesting, I wasn't aware of this. I think I need to go back and inquire further
