More like skiing and drumming :) I don't play drums in a band or anything, but it'd be nice to know I could if I wanted to. I do play bass though and have a pretty good sized rig, the speaker cabinet is twice the size of the S2000's trunk

Mechanically abusive? Potentially, without correct maintenance. Cosmetically abusive? How do you drive? My wagon has 151k miles on it and still looks great. Volvo dealer complimented that it didn't look like an '01. Quit tailgating and driving into curbs!

I think this can be something that can be overlooked for 10 months....you do have an Explorer, yes?

Coincidentally, Huzer plays guitar...just sayin'

I drive normally, just lots of highway miles. That combined with leaving your car outside and driving in snow isn't the greatest thing for paint...maybe the paint on Volvos is more durable than the paint on Hondas, though.

As for the Explorer, I wouldn't want to drive it daily. I drive enough that I would have to fill it up every week, and it's $70 every time I do, haha. Plus it's an SUV...and an automatic too.

But the Explorer would merely be used for activities...skiing and drums- right?

(shakes head)

Something tells me you already know what you want to do ;)

That's defnitely the case vs the Mazdas I've had. They chipped if you looked at them. Plus the Volvo is definitely has a lot more vertical front end, and unpainted plastic. Crap, what was my point again?

You were interested in securing a spot on Ranger's band.

A lot of people must have been eyeballing my car this winter...or I tend to follow closely.

I would pay off anything you have and buy a decent commuter car that will haul your stuff. It will take some shopping for sure. I'll catch a lot of heat, but if it weren't for my wife's total dislike of the Scion Xb, I would have gotten one of those. Comfortable, plenty of room for stuff, and can be modified to your liking. Not a real power house, but plenty peppy for getting around economically. They are a bit out of your 6k price arena though.

Well, the idea is that the Explorer (or whatever else I get) would be used daily, the S2000 would only be driven when I feel like going for a mountain drive, or just feel like going top down. As much as I love driving it, it's not good to put a ton of miles on a sports car, especially since I don't own it yet. That's part of how I got into this mess in the first place haha.

HOWEVER you're right, I don't want to sell it. Every car I've test driven so far made me think, ugh, this thing drives like poop compared to the S, there's no way I want to live with this. Mostly it has to do with how sloppy the clutch and gearbox feel on a lot of cars, compared to the S. Yes I want something that can be a good commuter, but I also want a driver's car. Apparently that's too much to ask for in my price range...

This may provide a good balance, except it's in MA:
http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/fs-ma-2005-lgt-limited-wagon-5mt-obp-181170.html
5MT LGT Wagon, 81k miles (53k less than the other one I posted :o), tastefully modded, and quite powerful at 290hp/290tq (which would be a bit lower here obviously, but still plenty powerful!)
I do say if you take the new DD route, a LGT Wagon would be a great choice. Plenty of room, plenty of power, and plenty reliable even with the turbo to be cheap to maintain and reliable to boot! And it's my understanding that the 5MT wagons, especially 05s are quite rare. Just a little extra cool-factor. Just ask zmarko, he's got a 5MT LGT Wagon, and it's an 05 too!

Any way you put it, good luck with your choice! From what you've posted in this thread, it seems like 1 or 2 are going to be your best bet at keeping you happy since it sounds like you really don't want to get rid of the S2k. Which, even having never driven one, I can definitely understand.

That wagon in NM is down to $8500. Fits with options 1 and 2 leaving some cash for the S2k :)

I forgot you already had the Explorer. I'd just split time between the two. You don't have to pick one car and daily drive it 100% of the time. It will still keep some miles off the S2K but won't cost you as much in gas as driving the Explorer all the time. Plus you already have a vehicle that will haul drums and skis around.
