my wife doesn't make all that much as a teacher but it is quite a bit more than she made as a reporter.

AllState.

We had just had a 35%+ increase in our homeowners insurance from last year through Farmers so I was going to shop around and I get this letter in the mail from AllState with a quote that is a little over 1/3 of what our new rate was going to be. Holy crap, so I call them up and they do a quote and of course it's double what the quote they sent in the mail is. "Oh there are other factors we can't know when we do a quote purely off of the purchase price of the home." Yea but you shouldn't be sending quotes that you know you can't possibly honor just to bait and switch people. So that was strike #1.

Then when we were getting quotes she kept sending me quotes for $300,000 of coverage and I kept telling her my house is only $180,000 I don't need that much coverage and we kept going back and forth through email about it. Turns out she was sending me quotes for another Erik (with a k, not even the same spelling and not the same last name) who lives in Parker. WTF. Strike #2.

So after the quotes get straightened out it looks like we're going to be saving about $400-500 a year between auto and home. Sweet deal, let's do it. Oh btw we will send someone out to inspect your house next week sometime. Ok no problem.

This was a couple weeks ago and I canceled with my other insurance company that I've had for like 5 or 6 years now and today I get an email from them basically saying my house isn't insurable because I have a T-Lock roof which isn't used anymore. Not that it's too damaged or in need of repair, just the style of the shingles means they will not insure my house, period. Strike 3 and you're out. (not that I have a choice in the matter anyway).

So now I'm stuck crawling back to my old insurance company hoping they can give me the same shitty rates I was getting before. Luckily we did part on good terms so I hope it is possible. I had checked around homeowners rates with a couple other companies like Progressive and Esurance while I was going through the quote process and they were all way, way higher than even the huge increased rate I was going to be stuck with with Farmers.

The really crappy thing is last year after the hailstorm I could have gotten my roof replaced but I didn't because it wasn't leaking and I didn't want my rates to jump because I've never made a claim and didn't want to make one. Now, not only did I not save any money by not getting a new roof, but I'm going to be paying out the ### for it for years to come with increased rates for having an old roof, lol. I really hope we have another hailstorm this summer so I can get a new roof, even though it's stupid because this one is fine and not leaking.

Re. All State-- I gotta guy.

- People using Linkedin like their professional FB. I was told Linkedin was nothing like FB...yet it seems just like it.
- Furthermore, bombardment of [linkedin] emails. So and so has a new contact...so and so has a new skill.
- Furthermore yet, the amount of spam that has transpired from having said linkedin account.

I've yet to find any good use for linkedin...

Don't forget that teachers get the same schedule as students. That means they get Summer break, Spring break, Christmas break and now I hear that there's a Fall break.
So, they only work less than 3/4 of a year which would explain the salary.

But I do think that teachers should get pay more. That way the job will be more attractive to more good qualified people and they wouldn't want to leave and find other jobs that pays more.

Sim City. If anyone has ever played this game awesome. But this new one with always-online and downloading files required to play is a joke. It's a single player game. Why can't I just build my city without having to be connected? Small map sizes. Sim city 3000 was the last great Sim City game. Now it's broken and costs $60. Price was reduced like 2 weeks ago to $40 and just went back up.

I rufuse to buy it for $60. Can I even install it on all of my 3 computers or wwill the DRM lock me to one? This is why PC gaming kinda sucks. If anyone is looking for an alternative I suggest Cities XL 2012/Platinum. They donn't sell it in retail stores in America because it wasn't that sucessful so you have to do a digital Download or import it. I have it installed and use GameStow to sync all my game save fiels to the cloud that way my progress saves on all the computers and I can keep playing on the same city.

I want to play Sim City but the Beta left a bad taste in my mouth and gameplay doesn't look interesting or challenging. I thought they were gonna make something great but Maxis and EA failed to make something great. They could have done so much to improve upon Sim City 4 and make it better, a game that came out in 2003. What a shame. They tried to hard to make it appeal to the casual market. I'm surprised it has sold well. If I can get it for under $40 I may buy. I wonder how many years the servers will be up and running for. When they do you won't be able to play your game. Doesn't that suck.

Thanks for listening.

Yea the SimCity launch hasn't gone over well. Diablo 3 had the same problem at launch but a week after launch it was fine and there were no more problems so you shouldn't have any issues now. I mean who isn't connected to the Internet all the time nowadays anyway? And I'm pretty sure you have a login so it's not really tied to any one computer so you should be able to install it on as many computers as you want since your access is tied to your login anyway.

I haven't seen it but my cousin tried to install to his laptop but couldn't use the same install code. Bit then again he is not the most computer literate. And also I'd like to build out my city when on the go when I'm not connected or have no way of connecting. It doesn't make sense at all to not be able to play your game when you are offline. Online should be a requirement only if you want to play with other people to build up a region.

Then come the next Xbox rumors which I don't think are true, at least I hope they aren't, of an always online console. Rumors were the same for the PS4 until it was announced. I understand wanting to fight piracy but a large percent of the world including a large number of Americans don't have a good enough connection to always be online.

Best solution I have is to implement some kind of NFC chip on the game disc that the console can scan when the game boots to recognize it as an official game and not a burnt game. If someone finds a way to emulate the chip and stick it on a blank disc they deserve to pirate the game then.

Well and EA said the always online requirement for SimCity was not an anti-piracy measure, at least not entirely. And within a few hours of the game's release the pirates had already found away around it anyway and were playing offline. However, your city was not saved since it's stored on their servers, so it still wasn't really a viable option to play offline unless you like starting over from scratch every time you play, which would suck.

The problem with DRM and other anti-piracy measures is they almost never stop the pirates from doing their thing anyway, and almost always inconvenience the people who are legitimate customers paying for the product, to the point of pissing them off and sometimes preventing them from buying the product or future products because of it.

I don't listen to 95.7 much, but I do flip around. What grinds my gears is...everytime I 'flip' to said station I get either a.) Bruno Mars (ugh) or b.) JT's hideus new song/s
