Unexpected challenge today, and I responded like a jackass to it.

I was rounding a turn, passing a Ford Escape and trying to get ahead of him before the lanes merged down to 1 lane from two. Wasn't doing anything fancy, just a routine pass, since he was under the limit.

Well, just as I drew even wtih the driver's door, the toolbox looked at me and accelerated. I SHOULD have dropped back behind him and let the idiot go, but my friggin ego and Italian temper got the better of me and I floored it. Of course I passed him and merged safely, but when he decided to ride my bumper after that, I continued to accelerate.

I should have ignored him and driven normally, but instead I got stupid. Looking back, it's a move I would have told my kids NOT to do, so I'm a bit ashamed that I did it myself. My speed didn't threaten other traffic at that point, but it did threaten me. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Can't let that temper get the best of me behind the wheel like that.

@Stealth: This reminds me of one of my less intelligent moves that I pulled in the 'yata...

Southbound Powers, just north of the westbound righthand turn onto Research, on my way home. Jackhole in some manner of SUV cuts me off to get into the turn lane that I'm in, apparently oblivious to the fact that I was even there. So he makes the turn and gets into the number 3 lane straight away. I stay in the merge lane and redline it in second, barely passing the SUV, cutting him off in return, but using up just about ALL of the 150 foot merge lane to pass him.

And then was subsequently stopped at the light on Scarborough not 500 feet away.

And then there was the challenge that I didn't even know I was getting... Me and a co-worker are stopped at the light on southbound Powers and Old Ranch. He's in a CR-V, and just for fun, we go a little bit as the light turns, me just enough to pull very slowly on him. We get to the speed limit and let up, me about a length and a half on him, and just as we do, some manner of econobox cuts in between us and takes off... I slow down to pull even with my co-worker, and he's yelling at me, "Well, don't just sit there, go get him!" I politely declined...

I had one of the most awesome challenges today... I'm heading up Wadsworth and see some older guy in a Mustang GT convertible kinda flying through traffic. I eventually catch up to him and cruise by with nothing happening. I turn right on Quebec and head towards Sheridan cruising pretty fast. I get to a double left turn lane and am just chilling there. Low and behold the older guy in the Mustang GT convertible pulls up next to me in the inside left turning lane. He creeps up and I tell my stepdaughter watch, he wants to race. She could tell also because he was trying to anticipate the light. Arrow turns green and he gets on it chirping the tires. I was obviously ready for him and once I got to 3rd gear it was over for him, he got raped and we both let off. I knew he was gonna lose but the coolest part of it all was later down the street we were both at a light and he was shocked as fuck asking me what I had "in it" and that after 2nd I pulled on him good. Told him its a 4 cyl. with a turbo almost pushing about 280hp w/mods (didn't say to the wheels... before you nerds get on me. Lol) and had even more torque. He was all shocked and asking what kind of wheels I had and saying "that shit is fuckin' badass". Like I said the coolest part of it all was another old school car guy recognizing the Japanese/Import "muscle". :)

I was challenged against a 06 red Jetta GLI last night. We were sitting at a light and I kept creeping up, the light turned green and I stepped on it. We were in lonetree so I was really worried about the cops around there. He spun and squilled his tires like there was no tomorrow.. Next thing I knew here he came, turbo spooling and all.... Oh that's right.. it was Josh.. I let him win.. hahahaha jk!
That was a fun little off the line challenge. I love that I can get him off the line, but I know he is going to be coming up next to me in a matter of seconds. :lol:

You might actually just need to resort to the 'banana in the tailpipe', assuming the light is long enough...

Yeah, I know everyone does it, but I usually manage to put safety first, and I have done well keeping things within acceptable risk levels of late. Ah well. Live and learn and move on.

Two challenges in the last three days for me. One was an A4 Avant that did a fly-by, then stopped at a red light with me. I practice launches at that redlight and decided that'd be a good time to work on it. Got myself another fly-by as I backed off at the limit.

Then tonight out of the blue some douche in a Suburban challenged me. I was behind him at a light. We both turned left into a three-lane road. I was taking it easy, just bringing home milk. He slid over to the middle lane from the left, so I eased my speed up and started to pass him. I wasn't gunning it or anything. Just nice and smooth.

Douche-mesiter looks over, laughs, and starts accelerating. I thought for SURE he was trying to get over into the left lane again, then slam on the brakes, so I accelerated to the PSL. But no, panty-waste punched it again. Fine. Whatever. I nailed it, pulled on him for a car length (in about a second lol), then shut down, just to shut him up.

It didn't work. He blew by me probably doing 75 in a 45. Typical ricer fly-by I let him go. No way in HELL I'm risking my license to show some redneck his armored tank is slow.

Challenged by an M3 this morning. Newer model...maybe a 2006. Was coming home from the gym and saw him HAULING a55 up behind me. Knew what was going to happen -- he got even with me and slowed down to match my speed. I smiled at him -- it is a nice car, after all -- then ignored him, so he tore off at PSL + whatever just to get stopped at a redlight. LOL.

As he was stopping, here comes a Grand Am up behind me, also hauling a55.

My plan, should we all stop at the redlight: The slowest possible acceleration. Let the M smoke the Grand Am while I just take it easy. I don't need to lose my license, and besides, the results would be a predictable:

M3------------------------->
MS6------------------>
G/A------->

Fortunately, the light changed JUST as I got there, so it was all moot. Just cruised on through. What's funny is that the M3, from a stop, SMOKED the Grand Am from a roll. LOLOLOLOLOL.

So is it a compliment to get challenged by an M3, or was he just being a douche? :D

The other night I was going south on Kipling at Florida and got a front row seat next to a 1971 dodge Challenger with some (looked like 15" wide meats in the rear). We rolled off the line slow like there wasn't going to be a race and then he opened it up. It took me a woppin 1/8th mile to pass him up. His woman next to him looked like she started slouching in the seat and got the usual dirty looks. It's ok, it was just awesome to beat something like that. Speedracer was slackin and wanted a piece of the Dodge as well. Josh you have to wake up and get into the action.
