I see what you're saying and would normally agree that this is good ettiquette. However, these guys are complete chodes. No tact. Rude if anything. They aren't looking to get a workout, but rather cause as much disruptance as possible. They're merely working out in a linear fashion-- linear, as in going down the line of machines. Rather than skipping the machine and doing their next senseless, out of control set... they choose to interrupt you and expect you to stand aside while they lube up (read: sweat all over) your equipment.
Working out at 24hr was always a great experience. You had people that were actually fit and sweating because they were working hard. Not because they were craving a congratulatory donut or smoke when they were through. If/when someone asked to work in, it was either because they knew you'd be on there for awhile or you were doing a similar weight-- in which case they knew you wouldn't have to re-rack everthing. Either way, I never had an issue with anyone working in over there.
