PINKS All Out coming to Denver!
EVENT INFORMATION

Bandimere Speedway will host an event / episode of the popular SPEED Channel program “PINKS: ALL OUT” during the 2008 season. The event will be held on Saturday, August 9th, with a Test & Tune provided the night prior.

For each shoot, PINKS All Out will invite several hundred grass roots drag racers to qualify for a shot at the final PINKS All Out 16, where competitors race for the lion’s share of an $18,000 overall purse ($10,000 to win) and a new NAPA tool chest. Hosted by creator and executive producer Rich Christensen and produced by Pullin Television out of Los Angeles, the television show rigors its on-air technical advisors (brothers Nate and Adam Pritchett) to select a field of 16 cars based upon a subjective elapsed-time grouping determined through two time-trial sessions. Prior to each Saturday shoot, racers will have the opportunity to pre-register their race cars and take part in a Friday test n’ tune.

The PINKS All Out at-track experience offers a variety of exhibitions and competitions, including the Purifoy Chevrolet Fast 16 and Five-R Quick 16 programs, providing on-track activities throughout the Saturday shoot. In addition, a midway area provides local vendors, manufacturers, supporters and local groups to elevate its involvement and showcase their wares or talents, offering a variety of entertainment on and off the track.

“We started out producing a television program and in very short order we’ve found ourselves in the event business, attracting upwards of 400 cars and drawing crowds sometimes in excess of 25,000 spectators, many of whom have never before attended a drag racing event,” said Robert Ecker, SPEED VP of Programming and one of the show’s Executive Producers. “As such, we are working very closely with each of these tracks to forge a partnership that will provide the best possible entertainment experience for fans, for competitors, for sponsors and for the viewers at home. It’s been a blast so far and we’re only getting started.”

“I can’t wait to get to Bandimere,” said Nate Pritchett, technical advisor of PINKS All Out. “It’s one of those tracks you always hear about, about the great racing, how beautiful the area is and how well the track is run. We should have a great time in Denver, and I am really looking forward to getting out there.”

Bandimere Speedway’s Media Relations Director, Jeff Sipes shares, "As Bandimere Speedway celebrates our 50th Anniversary season on 'Thunder Mountain', PINKS All Out is a fantastic addition to our action-packed 2008 schedule. We are sure that motorsports fans from all across the region will converge on this historic quarter-mile track in August to be a part of the PINKS television phenomenon - trying to race their way to the $10,000 reward, or to witness the speed, passion and excitement of drag racing in Colorado, PINKS-style."

Questions & Answers:

When can I register to participate?

Bandimere Speedway is working with SPEED Channel producers to establish pricing and registation guidelines. Some tracks have gone to all-online registration. Norwalk (Summit Motorsports Park) sold out of their 400 spots in 12 minutes. We are looking at offering spots a the Racer Expo on February 21st, as well as some via phone and/or online the following morning. If you do not get in, there will be many chances to win entries at a variety of event at Bandimere Speedway leading up to the event.

Keep watching Bandimere.com for very detailed registration information / guidelines immediately after the holidays.

Who can race?

The PINKS All Out format from SPEED Channel currently is open to 12.99 seconds and quicker door cars. The producers will select 16 cars from the field of participants for the 'show'. In addition, Bandimere Speedway will host a Purifoy Chevrolet Fast 16, Five-R Quick 16, Fineline 16, and possibly an additional class made up from non-show qualifying PINKS entries.

Any other details how it works?

Qualifying

Cars of various types will each take time in a series of trial runs, with the first run with the standard electronic starting system and all clocks running.

At the end of the session, the show officials then determine the best possible field, and head back to the strip for a second run to ensure there is no sandbagging. This time, the clocks are turned off as to not let spectators know the times down the strip, and only Pinks officials can know the elapsed time of the cars. The "Christmas tree" is also turned off, and either Rich or Kail Christensen will active the signature Pinks arm-drop start.

The Race

Sixteen cars, based on times (producers want sixteen closest cars, not fastest, and often pick slower cars because they are not sandbagging), are set up in a drag race format.

First Round

The cars are chosen at random by the producers, and they race without negotiations, but with the Pinks style start. The winner wins $1,000, while the loser is eliminated.

Second and Third Round

The $1,000 cash may be used as betting money in the next round. Drivers may bet as much as they wish in each round, and the cars are not formally bracketed, so the producers and technical officials may determine the race by car types, driver types, or any manner which they may choose.

One All Out match featured in the second round a husband vs wife match.

Spectators will cheer if more money is bet, especially to the limit. Titles may not be bet. Only the $1,000 from the first round may be bet.

The winner advances to the semifinals where they may bet the accumulated cash in the next race. The winner of that round advances to the Championship.

Championship Round

At the end of the third round, the two remaining teams will determine lane choice and betting. Afterwards, the cars will race in a best two-out-of-three match.

After the first round, the two cars will immediately return back to the start line for a second race immediately. If the winner of the first race wins the second race, they win the championship; otherwise, the two teams will race a third, and deciding, event.

In the finals, the drivers will also compete for a $10,000 cash prize and a tool chest with tools valued at over $7,000 from NAPA Auto Parts.

Infractions

The All Out format was created because of Rich Christensen’s displeasure with ‘sandbagging’ - feathering or decelerating to create a false elapsed time and hide actual performance - on the original Pinks. This format, where brothers and technical directors Adam and Nate Pritchett rigor to select a group of cars within an elapsed time index, was made to create some of the inherent drama associated with racers that finish within tenths of a second of each other.

A "no sandbagging" rule exists in the eliminations. If a car easily could run faster than what they ran in practice, and prove it during any elimination round, they are automatically disqualified ("Breakout"). They would also be disqualified for an infraction of other basic drag racing regulations (jumping the start, boundary line violations).

During the Championship Round, unless requested by a competitor because of a mechanical problem or in case of inclement weather, the cars must be driven back on their own power between rounds and be staged for another race immediately. Once the cars are back at the staging area, the process for the next race begins immediately
