I am a most likely. I am not an SCCA member. How are numbers assigned to those of us that aren't registered members?

You don't have to be a member. You can pick from available numbers when you register for the event online. Not sure if you need a membership number to reserve a number though, I'll check on that.

When you register, you must make "your car" and at that time pick a number. The site will tell you to look at the reserved numbers list. If you find a number that is not being used (and you want) you make your car with that number. If it is available you will be able to complete the registration and in theory that number is now reserved by you.

You'll get that number and the 100 number too (45 & 145) for use when you have a second driver in your car. The one is installed and removed as the two drivers alternate. I was able to pick and keep my number even when I was only doing the weekend memberships. As long as you don't go longer than a year between uses (or change classes) that number should be yours to use in the Denver and Colorado Springs groups for good.

That way you can make magnetic numbers or vinyl static stick/decals. Many of the racers get magnetic vent covers from Home Depot/Lowes and cut out their own numbers/letters. The set I bought gave me 4 numbers and three letters for both sides for about $35.00 shipped. Took about a week. They have lasted for almost two years and are still in great shape. Several of my magnets have direct cone hits/marks yet we have never lost one on the track. I tend to hit more cones with the side of my car than the front.

Thanks Eric. That is why I asked. I would prefer to make some magnetic numbers using the magnetic vent covers than to use tape. Even though the tape route would be more cost effective. I have no doubt I will end up doing it more than once.

I actually plan to cut the numbers out of the vent cover. Hopefully that works well.

The only issues we find is how you store them (flat) before they go on the cold car on a cold morning. We keep them in a mailing envelope and in the foot well of the car/truck driven out. They are warm and conform to the body contour better that way. The mag cover vent numbers stick almost as well as the custom ordered ones. Pencil/ruller and a starndard pair of sissors will do the trick for cutting them out.

I re-read the reserved number thing. You must reserve (click a box) if you want to keep using that number. If it doesn't get used within 6 months it can be unreserved by admin. In practice, if you come out once or twice a year, you can keep "your" number.

I have no idea how often I will use it, but a few times a year is pretty likely.
Thanks for all the info.

I've been interested in doing some autocross for a while. Is there any special prep that needs to be done to the car or just show up with a helmet and your good?

When I looked through the SCCA rules, it seemed like anything free to move inside the car should be removed. So if you have a soccer ball in the back take it out before you leave the house (justy an example). But for the most part, I think most anything that would need to be removed could be done at the venue. Make sure your tires are in good shape. No leaks. That is what I gleaned from my reading.

The tech guys will look at your car looking for loose items. They'll check for wheel bearing/suspension slop by push/pulling the tops of the tires. They will step on the brake to make sure it has a firm pedal. They will test that the throttle closes when the loud pedal is released. One of the biggest "fails" is a loose battery, make sure yours is tight. Beyond that have a little more air in the tires than is normal (so you can lower the pressures to suit at the event).
Most of us drive to the event and unload there before getting to tech.

If you are even thinking about autocrossing, COME OUT AND GIVE IT A TRY! It is a great time with fellow car buffs.

Registration complete. Cones beware!

Based on what I found for car classifications, I put myself in h stock. Nothing I found discussed intakes. I can reinstall stock if I need to, but they don't make much of a real difference besides noise on the naturally aspirated 2.3 liter. I also have different springs, but they don't attach at different places than stock. I saw when I put the rear sway on, that I will go into the prepared class.

Think I am all set to go except payment...how much, when and where. I'll be running 18hs:mellow:
