Worth $1000?

This is for sale near me. Thinking of picking it up for a flip. It needs tires and a detail. Otherwise, a few cosmetic bumps and dings o be expected of an 18 year old car. The downside is that it is currently owned by a smoker, and there's no hiding that fact, interior is nasty.

99 Honda Civic CX (base model hatch).

The 2005 Volvo S40 behind it is for sale too, $3000 with 127k on it. The Honda has 136k miles.

It depends on how bad the interior really is.
Any pics?

Interior smells like smoke and is dirty. It'll clean up, I didn't see food/etc, just papers, dirt/dust, the smell concerns me though.

Hopefully it's worth $1000. I'll be picking it up tomorrow. He's taking it in the morning for a smog test.

Car drives nice, looks ok, interior will need some elbow grease. I may try and just replace the seats. A couple cig burns in one, and there are quite a few being parted out on CL. One of these days, I'll make a run over to a junkyard and see what I can find. Mechanically, it's a great little car and well maintained.

Going through the paperwork, TB/WP and CVs were replaced about a year ago. Front brakes a couple of years ago (man, I'm glad I'm willing to do my own stuff....he was charged $400 for rotors and pads). Exhaust replaced about 3 years ago. All sorts of stuff done. Original window sticker intact, it sold in '99 for MSRP $11,065.

Just don't put too much money into it, it's probably only worth about $2k or so.

All I plan on doing are cleaning and seats. I found a pair for $40, just need to go pick them up.

Looking through the service records, the last major service was exactly 2 years ago. Timing belt, water pump, valve adjustment, brakes, brake flush. He was charged more than what I paid for the car! $1300.

The motor needs that shadow detail touch but otherwise looks good. Yea previous owner got it w/o Vaseline on the T-belt job.

I can see the appeal of these. Small, light, tossable. I enjoy driving it around, as it's been a while since I've had a small car (oh, Miata, where are you now? Ha). It feels quite solid. I'll keep driving it around until the title comes and I can get it on CL for sale.

It looks like it is in a good starting condition. Just need to clean up some of that surface rust and oxidation and it will look great. Depends how much Huzer wants to spend as far as time.

I think he should keep it until fall. Toss it around for a bit at an autox or track and then sell it.

I may keep it a little longer than intended. When I visit the junkyard, I may try and find some of those rusty brackets and replace them. Or I could just pull them off and paint them.

I'm getting tires put on it right now. It really is a pleasant driving little vehicle. It's no exaggeration that it had me thinking, hmm, maybe I hang on to this and sell the truck. I won't do that, but it's amazing that for what has amounted so far to be an hour of cleaning, and probably an hour and a half of additional time in DMV and tires, that it is such a nice little car.

Yes it still reeks of smoke, and hopefully the junkyard interior swap will help with that. If not this weekend, I'll make a trip next weekend to pick up what I need. The A/C works, so I could even hang on to it over summer and still be comfortable in the heat. I know my wife won't want it to take up space that long, so I'll just have to see how long I hang on to it.
