Ordered the wheels/tires. I decided on age-old Torq Thrust D (charcoal painted spoke) with 225/60/15 BFG Radial TA. 15x7, all the way around. Since I'm a few years off from bodywork, I thought these wheels and color combo would look good on the car as it sits now. Down the road, I may get a set of Magnums to swap out as well.
Since I've been looking every day on CL since I bought the Cougar for wheels, I'm sure this means that a set will show up, now.

Wheels and tires arrived yet?
Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
They should be here by the end of the week. Now it's on to finding suspension and brake bits. Wee!

Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
My brittle alternator harness gave up the ghost. I was going to solder the connections, but figure to just replace the wiring harness, since it's cheap. This one had also been painted over when they respray end the engine bay, so it's even extra special brittle.
Found this out when the car wouldn't start a couple of days ago. Went for a short drive, tried to start, and it was dead. Jumped it in the garage and let it sit over night, and it fired right up. So, I picked up an alternator, and as I was removing the old, discovered the wiring issue. The guy had also pig tailed part of the harness together with wire nuts. Thankfully, everything removed easily with nothing stuck.

Ordered some Kni adjustable shocks. They should be here by next weekend. Shocks are easy enough to swap out, I'd like to dive it a little before I put it up for the winter and rebuild the front end and do a full suspension refresh. The old shocks are blown, and the wider fronts rub over bumps. Eventually, I'll replace the springs f/r as well.
My car is 16 year old niece approved. She asked if I could give her and her friend a ride in it over the weekend. Ha!

Nice Huzer.
Went to a car show in Littleton yesterday. Didn't see any Cougars. Some really nice american muscle there though.

Discovered the Koni shocks on sale at Tire Rack for 20% off. Initially, I had ordered the fronts through Amazon because I had points, and they were the cheapest (normal price per shock is $140 for the fronts, they had them at $65/each due to them being misrepresented as a box of 2). So I'm all in for shocks at $333. The Koni setup at most places runs between $550-600, so I'm pretty pleased. The rears will be here Wednesday. The second of the front shocks will be here tomorrow. Even though there is a lot of other work to do under the car, I'm sure having functional shocks will help immensely. Now I need to research which springs to go with. Probably 620 Grab A Traks up front. Not sure on the rears.
Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
Solid work on the shocks!
Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
I got the fronts installed yesterday. The front is better, driver's side still rubs a bit over bumps. I measured ground/fender, and I'm about 3/4" lower on the the driver's side. With all of the rotted out bushings, etc, I'm probably putting the car up for now until I replace the front end. I hope to do that within the next month or so. So, I need springs, and a front end rebuild. I imagine 1" drop springs may actually raise the car. Ha.
I may wait on installing the rear shocks until I replace the leafs in the back, too. I hop that by, say January, I'll have the suspension/steering work complete, maybe the brakes as well, depending on $$. After that, it's moving on to the engine/transmission. I'll get the floor fixed before spring as well.

Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar
1 year of Cougar ownership. Heck, I don't even want to get rid of it yet! I removed the cheesy 3 gauge pod from the bottom of the dash yesterday. The only thing hooked up was temp. I had to order a set of NPT plugs for the intake manifold where he connected the temp gauge. I have an NPT hose nipple on order so I can see if the headlight actuators work. I plan on doing an electric conversion some time down the road, and if the vacuum ones I have are working, I can get decent money for them on trade in.
My wish list keeps growing, but I've done a decent job of keeping budget on track so far. I'm now about $4500 into the car, total.
