The new 4Runner
Re: The new Taco
Just throw that hose in the oil catch pan once you cleaned it out. I would like to put a fumoto on the S2K. Just haven't gotten around to it.
Re: The new Taco
In what should shock nobody, the Taco be gone. Replaced with a 2019 4Runner. Nothing special, an SR5 Premium with the third row.
The Taco netted $28k on trade in, so it cost me about $3k over three and a half years, not including gas/insurance/etc.

Re: The new Taco
Interesting. Hope the 4 Runner gives you the same joy.
The cougar is gone too, right?

Re: The new Taco
Yes, the Cougar is also gone. We still have the Grand Cherokee. Having put almost 4k on the 4Runner in a couple of months, it's nice, comfy-ish, and very similar to the Taco in some ways. It's still very much "trucky", and I found I wasn't using the bed on the Taco other than for my son's hockey gear. I do have a small tinge of regret trading in the Taco.
I'm still sorting out what I want for a Cougar replacement. It'll either be another car (not truck), or motorcycle of some sort. I'm thinking of something newer that won't have the rust issues of the Cougar, or potentially just biting the bullet and getting the Mustang fastback that I'd just keep forever. Who knows!

I'm calling BS on the "keep forever" part.

Re: The new Taco
Figured I’d toss in a pic of the 4Runner before I get started on it. In the next few months, I’ll be installed a Dobinsons 2.5/1.5” lift, and wheels/tires, I picked up a set of TRD Pro matte gray wheels a couple of months ago when Toyota had a 40% Off TRD parts sale. I couldn’t pass up new OEM wheels for $500.
I already have almost 8k on it, but the miles will slow down a bit now that we don’t have a billet kid to transport around. We provided housing for a 15 year old AAA hockey player last year, which meant a lot of commuting to various places. We’ve used the third row a few times, and it has a ton of cargo space, especially with the second row folded.

Re: The 4Runner (previously, the new Taco)
My lift plans have changed. I ordered a Bilstein lift (6112 adjustable front, 5160 remote reservoir rears). I didn't want anything huge, and had the 6112s preassembled at a 2" lift height (they can go anywhere from 1" to 2.75"). That, some bigger tires (either 275/70/17 or 285/70/17, I haven't nailed that down yet, but leaning 275), the new wheels will give the 4Runner a little more aggressive look. The 6112/5160 combo is also what comes stock on the TRD Pro model, the main difference is that the TRD Pro is a 1" lift and non adjustable. It's an easy install, so I can probably tackle it some evening after work, or potentially this weekend if everything arrives. I'd be nice to get out on some trails soon.
I'm not sure what, if anything, I'll do after that. Probably the TRD Pro grill, and maybe some interior storage solutions, as the 4Runner lacks the storage the Taco does (no underseat storage in the second row). I think this is going to have to fill the role of project car for the next year or two

Re: The new 4Runner
Lift installed. It took a few hours on Saturday to get through, but nothing too bad. I’m very pleased with the outcome. First pic I took last night, comparison of a stock SR5 to the mine, now.

Re: The new 4Runner
That looks great! I like the aggressive rake that it has.
Re: The new 4Runner
Thanks. I'm really happy. I ended up with slightly less rake than stock (before measurements had me at 2'. after is 1.25"). Including the additional height from the tires, I'm at +2.25" in the front, and +1.25 in the rear). The tires are good for about 1/4" of the lift, which means I'm right in spec for what the suspension was supposed to provide (+2" in the front, the rear springs are advertised for 1.5" of lift, but I also have the third row seat which adds weight. I'm actually glad I didn't end up with the full 1.5".)
I'll drive it this week and let it settle a bit more, then take it in for an alignment. I have a small rumble at about 45-50 MPH that goes away. The only thing I'm not thrilled with is how much weight the E load tires add, but E load was pretty much the only option in the 275/70.17 size.
It's funny, I've lowered a bunch of cars before, this is the first vehicle I've lifted (my '69 Bronco was lifted, but the rustbucket was bought that way).

The 4Runner is now old. 10k on it. Let the shopping commence. Ha.
