So today we installed the coilovers, was alright, the bolts were stupidly stubborn. So after we install and head to grab dinner i go over the first speed bump...painful. We stop to check etc, i put it in park and it just rolls backwards. Pull into a parking spot and check fluids and what not. Trans fluid kinda low. I then go to leave and the transmission has like a 1sec hesitation before going into gear, continues to do this from a stop. Go to the gas station to take a picture, start the car back up, it dies. Start it again and give it some gas to keep it going, scrape my way to the restaurant and park it. Put it in 'park' and we hear a loud clicking sound. I shut the car off immediately and we go in. Come out afterwards check for fluid leaks and there's nothing, people on foresternation tell me to start it in neutral so i do that. No clicking or anything, move it back to park and immediate clicking so i shut it off instantly. People are saying the parking prawl(never heard of that until today). Any input? Anything would be greatly appreciated!

Lowest fozz in CO? Yes. Although tomorrow we are going to try and figure out the problem(s) and raise it an inch or two. The coils were waaay lower than expected.

Did you buy private party or dealership? I haven't heard of a parking panel either. Panels generally engage gears though so not exactly a surprise. More panels better/quicker engagement. This is from the mtb world though.

Edit: panels=pawls to a galaxy phone apparently.

A parking pawl is basically a big latch that inserts into a cog on the final drive to prevent movement of said final drive.

The outcome is a broken C/V axle, which was causing the clicking sound. Thanks to AA for the troubleshooting on that. Some pictures so this thread isn't worthless

My new exhaust, the other half is in the box still but it looks very good, solid welds and what not.

You know you're from CO when you spend hours in these conditions working on the Subaru.

And my clearance from the lowest part of the stock exhaust to the bed of the tow truck. An inch? Lol.

And the broken car at the shop

Unfortunate. I had the same problem when I installed my springs.
I believe the CV axle moves when the brake assembly is lowered to
allow the front struts to come out.

So the excessive lows caused the cv axle to break?
Curious as to why there was clicking whehn you were in park. Seems like everything would be held in place from the transmission so the axle wouldn't be turning for any reason.

The short version: the parking pawl can engage the cogs on the final drive if the final drive is not moving. Usually this is because the wheels aren't moving. Since one of his axles was broken, the trans and the wheel were not connected, so the final drive can just spin, turning the output shaft, but not the wheel. Since the final drive is spinning, the park pawl cannot engage the cog properly. Square peg into really fast spinning square holes.

There have been domestic rebuilds of the Forester into the sti form. Not saying this one was done and didn't just put badges on it, but you know more since you saw it and likely heard it (definitive sound to an sti IMO).

I also have seen a blacked out STi Forester in the springs a few times. Same one maybe? I think the first time I say it was 3 or 4 years ago.

The one I am recalling I have seen a couple of times at the I25/Lincoln ave exit. I recall a cargo rack on top, but I could be mistaken.

Cool whip for sure if it was converted to the sti power plant.
