Do you change your own oil?
Do you change your own oil?
Now that me Toyotacare has expired, I guess I need to figure out if I'll change my own oil or keep taking it to the dealer. If there's one thing I hate dealing with on cars, it's fluids.
Re: Do you change your own oil?
Strangely, automotive fluids are some of the things I don't mind messing with. Except coolant.
Re: Do you change your own oil?
Mainly, I don't like hauling them. Brake fluid probably tops my list.

Re: Do you change your own oil?
Depends on the car for me. RX-7 I do myself. The other cars I take to the shop. I don't see an option for that answer
Re: Do you change your own oil?
I do, but don't mind having shops do bigger maintenance items like alignment, axles, etc. I just do fluids on my own because it's easy, cheaper, and I know exactly what's going in.
Re: Do you change your own oil?
Having seen a dealership mechanic using a cordless impact to do oil/fluid changes I always do my own.

Re: Do you change your own oil?
As the cliche goes, I plan on keeping the truck until it falls apart, so no time like the present to get familiar with it. I'm definitely not going to pay the dealer $90 to do it. That's absurd. Does anyone have experience with those Fumoto valves?
Re: Do you change your own oil?
Virtually all small airplanes use those valves or a similar type. I've never had any issue with them. The aviation ones were more of a push type that would spring back down closed. Not sure if there is a quality difference but there is no worry about the valve being able to vibrate open.

Re: Do you change your own oil?
The problem I've heard with using those valves is the stick down and can hit things and snap off. It all depends on if the plug faces down or to the back.

They have a new style one that you can position. I think I'm going to order one, a case of filters, and call it good.

For anyone that uses Mobil 1, I found this. https://apfco.com/secure/R8235W/
Re: Do you change your own oil?
Nice. That is a good deal. Hopefully it can be used multiple times.
Re: Do you change your own oil?
You can use it twice, apparently it's a yearly fall promotion they do. Maybe they do it other times of the year, too.
