Not really a new idea. They put these in airplanes in the 1910's and 20's. then studebaker made one in the 60's. We had diagrams of one of the early aircraft "axial engines" where I went to A&P school called a "Macomber". Only huge difference is the "duke" has a stationary head which seems like it would be impossible to seal well.

If you are interested in this type design look up the Macomber. It had a cool swashplate controlled variable cylinder stroke. It could effectively change displacement while it was running!!

BTW I think they used something similar in old torpedos.
