... and figuratively, not literally.

So today was the day I set out to finally install my re-worked intake manifold and install the AWR rear motor mount. I started right at about 10 after I routed the antenna for my satelite across the garage ceiling. I had the manifold out around 11 so things were looking good. Then I directed my attention to the rear mount and that's when things started going down hill. Just getting a wire bundle out of the way took probably 45 minutes to an hour. I broke a 17mm socket trying to loosen the 3 nuts that hold the mount to the frame. And one nut was nearly destroyed. I'll get pics uploaded- they are on my other computer and I never figured out why my network got screwed up when I moved. Plus I was under the assumption that I could re-use the gaskets on the manifold- WRONG! I've got the throttle body gasket on special order at Burt and Car Quest should have the manifold gasket ready sometime tomorrow. So anyway, by about 3:30 I called it a day.

So tomorrow I'll pick up the new gasket and 3 new nuts (I'll probably get 6 just in case) and I'll be able to re-install just about everything. Then on Monday I'll pick up the throttle body gasket and that install shouldn't take too long.

What a pain!

Dont you hate that.. set out for a day in the garage, know exactly what you need to do, plan out how long it SHOULD take, and it always takes about 6 hours longer, and you end up going to the auto parts store about 10 times for something..

That always happens for the easiest things. Something that takes 10 minutes to do ends up being 4 hours. Tomorrow everything will go smoothly....well it should.

Oh and I actually did think you hit a wall...in th garage.

Yeah, I've had way too many easy projects turn into nightmares over the years. It's a wonder I even bother working on cars still.

Probably my worst one was when I was doing my stainless braided brakes lines on my Saturn. The left front corner was a piece of cake. But the right front was my nightmare. The hardline flare nut was frozen to the hardline. When I twisted the flare nut, the hard line twisted too. The result was me taking the day off work (that part wasn't so bad) and driving the car to the dealership a few miles away with no brakes so they could unbend the hardline to get some slack out and rebend it so it worked properly.

And the polyurethane suspension bushings were no picnic either. That install took ALL weekend and required several trips to the hardware store to replace broken tools and a dealer special order for new hardware.

All in all, this hasn't gone too bad. The real test will come when I go to hook up everything. Lots of connectors and vacuum lines have to be reconnected right........

Yeah cause it definately wasn't my daughter's diaper that day... :P

Hopefully things go smoother tomorrow/today Tom. Its kinda like when Josh did the swap of parts from my car to his... was a pain in the butt to take everything out but took like 15 min. to put everything back in. And it wasn't Josh, it was more of bolts/screws and clamps not wanting to loosen up on my car.

Here's the update: Carquest screwed me. The gasket they ordered for me that was suppose to be in today didn't come in. So it's Monday at the earliest for them- but Burt will have both of my gaskets in on Monday so that doesn't help me much.

I got the new hardware for the motor mount nuts at A&A Trading Post (Ace Hardware) on Broadway. Got those installed.

I can install the lower half of the intake manifold loosely this weekend to make myself feel like I've made a little progress. Monday night is going to be quite the wrench-a-thon.
