Has anybody with a speed (1st gen or 2nd gen) had issues with their ac compressor? Im at 55k, and the damn compressor clutch is laying on my garage floor... I read that Mazda extended the warranty on the a/c components for the cx-7 to 60k, anybody know the status on that extension for speed 3's/6's?

Called Mazda, they said $1450 to replace a/c Compressor..
$950 just to replace the clutch (labor intense job requires the motor to be lowered, "no possible way to get in there without removing the ac compressor, or lowering the motor").. Mazda tech also stated once the clutch falls off, it cannot be repaired, rather must be replaced..

I just got done having the compressor on my durango replaced literally last week. The internals had blown on the compressor, and it shot junk all over the motor..$1200 later, its fine. I figured take a look from underneath, and see what I can do about the Mazda, I cant afford another $1500 this week!!!

Took the drip tray off, found a bolt laying directly under the a/c compressor... I messed with the clutch a bit, and it seems it will only go back in one way. Pushed the clutch back on, and tried to get the bolt in. The tech said its impossible to get to that bolt, I beg to differ...

15 minutes later, the clutch is back on, bolt is secure, the compressor blows COLD air just like previously, no a/c compressor noise like I had previously (since I bought the car new)... didnt drop the motor, I dont have any cut knuckles..

exactly..

it wasnt easy to get to by any means, but a 1/4" drive w/ a swivel made it accessible, which is why I HATE taking my car to the dealer, or anywhere for that matter.

It's hard to find a real mechanic anymore. Just guys that want to throw new parts on rather than try to fix something.

Not surprised at all that you figured out how to get it done...congrats.
