New engine

So after figuring out the culprit of my death noise, we've pretty much found out that my engine is on it's last legs and I'm going to need a new one sometime in the future. My dad has asked me to post up some questions to forward the info to him, as we would prefer to get the engine taken care of before it completely dies. More than likely going to be putting a rebuilt 6i engine into the car, doubt my dad will end up going for an engine from a 6s. So now here is what we need to know:
1. Does anyone know of a good place to get a rebuilt engine for my 6i?
2. Does anyone know of a good, trustworthy place to have the engine put in locally?
3. Any idea on what labor costs might end up being to install the engine?
I'll probably end up adding a couple more questions later on, but I think this is everything my dad wants me to start with.

What exactly is wrong with your current engine? I would recommend that you rebuild your current engine.
to install the engine it just depends on the quality you want and person to do it. I can get you the person that dropped in my engine and he would charge you 300-500 depending how complicated it is. (mine was 300, but I helped connect back the intake)
but then a big shop can charge you 1k and up. I would recommend Precision Imports, since A guy I know only goes to them for work. He also does their computer software or something like that.

or................... how about we stick a rotary in it?

Ecam can explain what's wrong with my current engine better than I can. So hopefully we will see this and be able to explain it.
When I have this done, I want it done right. I don't want to have a half-assed job that seems fine but ends up having issues a week and a half down the road and have to shell out even more to get it fixed.

Where do you live? I have a shop that I trust to work on my cars in Denver if you're interested. They've done great work so far.

I'm out in Centennial. I live near C-470 and I-25.
Not sure how much anyone here would know about the specifics, but how much harder would it be to swap a 3.0L V6 from a 6s into my 6i?

I like the V6 engine, not sure how much you could find one used or how long the labor would be. Remember Ecam talking about engine knocking issues going above a certain RPM 2600???

I've posted over on 6crew hoping that some of the people over there will be more knowledgeable about the differences between the 2 engines to give me some idea of how much harder it would be. I've been driving more carefully and trying my best to keep the RPM below 2600. We will probably be looking to get a new/remanufactured engine rather than a used one.

Sure, if you guys wanna pay for the engine and everything necessary to convert my 6 to work with a rotary

just don't tell your dad it's a rotary. Tell him it's more fuel efficient and less powerful engine since it's only 1.3L lol
I don't know what Ian did with his n/a. But I'm sure he would cut you a deal

I think I'll shoot for the 3.0L V6 instead

What's all this talk I've heard about people swapping piston engines into RXs?
I'm hoping to get a 6s engine swapped in. My dad actually mentioned it before I said anything about it even though I had been thinking the same thing

It would mean a new transmission too, so I could go for a manual woo

This is gonna end up begin expensiveeeee
So back on topic: anyone else have info?

Yea I'm thinking if you're trying to keep it as inexpensive as possible you're not going to get the V6. Plus remember the V6 is going to have even worse fuel economy and weren't you complaining about the crappy gas mileage you were getting?
Your best bet is probably going to be having your current engine rebuilt. You won't have the cost of a new/remanufactured engine and the cost to pull the old motor and install the new one.
That said, I don't know any places where you can get that done.

We drained the oil and inspected the filter element. Lots of "glitter" in the filter. As I poured out the oil pan into my oil bucket found more shavings in the bottom. Some of these were longer (almost like shavings from a drill table). Every thing in the filter was non magnetic (aluminum or non ferris) I ran a magnet thtough the oil catch pan and did not pick anything up either. If it was a main or rod bearing, I would expect the death noise to be heard at all RPM's. When the noise is present, it is strong at the top and bottom of the engine. I'm guessing an oil starved cam?!? The knock is distinct and RPM related (one per rev) but is gone at idle. Oil light goes out as soon as the engine starts. I've not had a one of these engines open so I am only guessing to possible causes.
