Open Source Tune
Open Source Tune
Anyone know if you can have an open source tune done to Mazdaspeed 3 gen 2? I need to tune but don't have money for both accessport and pro tune.

Don't think there are any open source tuning solutions for the DISI motor, at least not one that is widely used and that I'd trust just to save a few hundred dollars.

What Erod said. There do exist some projects, but they are raw and you get what you pay for. When you're doing brain surgery on your ECU, the free one might not have enough of a safety net. That said, you can read about it here:
http://www.epifansoft.com/phpBB3/new-mazdaedit-tool-t432.html
As per that announcement, I don't think they have any form of 2nd gen Mazda3/Mazdaspeed3 ECU support (yet), so this doesn't even help you in its current form, but may be of interest to somebody.

How long can I wait for tune?
I am planning on purchasing Accessport at end of April but won't be able to get a pro tune until end of May. Will the OTS maps be ok for my catless downpipe and race pipe until I can get it tuned in May?

Yea you can run an OTS map. I would start with a Stage 1 map even though you have a downpipe and could potentially run Stage 2. See how the car reacts first. Do you have a Dashhawk or something to monitor KR? If not, you should buy that before you buy the AP.

I don't have the dashhawk but will I need it if I get a pro-tune right away? Also, doesn't the accessport data log KR? Main question is can dashhawk wait until later if I get both AP and pro tune right away?

Honestly, on a Speed, I wouldn't do any mods at all without a Dashhawk to monitor everything. KR is such a big deal that you need to know if it's happening at all times.

I've been looking for dashhawks online and there doesn't seem to be anyone still selling them since they're discontinued. Any other company that sells an OBII reader in the same format?

Aeroforce sells the Interceptor gauge which is very similar. There are also several vendors I found with a quick Google search that are still selling Dashhawks for $299 new. StreetUnit has jacked their price up to a ridiculous $999. They must be on crack. Yes, there is a high demand for them, but a grand for a scan tool? Crazy.
If you watch the For Sale section on Mazdaspeedforums.org you can almost always find a Dashhawk for sale for $200.

The Cobb AccessPort (current version at least), is capabale of monitoring real-time KR, as well as any of the other parameters that it captures.

That is true, you can use the AP to monitor, it's just not as nice for real-time monitoring as a Dashhawk. You can only monitor one thing at a time, plus it doesn't turn off when you turn the car off, so you have to unplug and replug every time you get in and out of the car or risk having screen burn-in.
The Dashhawk lets you monitor several things at once, plus the best part is that you can set thresholds so that if it reaches a certain limit, the screen will change color and get your attention. You obviously can't stare at the monitoring tool the entire time you're driving, so it's nice to have that flash so you know something is happening.

Do I need to have a wideband O2 sensor to use the Interceptor or does it plug into OBII port?

The Interceptor plugs into the OBDII port the same as the Dashhawk. It also can be setup to change colors at certain thresholds. Really depends on which design you'd rather have.
