Advice on tire issue?

Postby Justin » Tue Nov 09, 2010 9:14

I'm having problems with the inside edges of my front tires wearing very quickly. I had my alignment checked today and it is well within spec. Any ideas about other possible things to check?

there machine is more than likely off. also sounds like a toe problem, its too positive.

check for loose parts like tie rod, tie rod locking nut. lift the car off the ground and shake the wheel to check for wheel bearing play. also is you car lowered?

Take it to a different shop and get it double checked. If the alignment is off you may want to go back to the original shop and let them know.

I had a similar issue but it wasn't severe. It just had to do with the factory toe settings. Our cars seem to have natural camber and toe settings that are more inclined to produce the effects you're describing. This is just how they come off the line.

But get it checked again somewhere else and see what they say. If they are within spec, consider having them remove some of the toe or camber.

um...what they said...and I had an issue like that with my 6 when I was running just fwd (pulling the ebrake up one click) and just toasted the front tires...granted I'm sure me spinnin them all the damn time wasn't helping either.

The car is stock height. I've got 1.2 degrees of camber on both front sides and .04 degrees of toe on both sides (.08 degrees total). I'm planning to take it into the stealership in the next few days, see what they have to say about it. After a little more research, I'm thinking that my front struts may be shot. There appears to be some cupping on the tires. Annoying, as I've only got 42,000 miles. The upside is I may finally have a way to rationalize a set of coilovers to my wife.
