Anyone interested in putting together a 24 Hour of LeMons car for the more local parts of next season?

I am for sure. I tried to get 7 or 8 to go in for this past one and all fell through.... I want to race in it bad. It's so much fun (so i'm told and could imagine).

I'd love to, if it was truly the $500 project. Unfortunately, it's substantially more.

I did the race last year.

To give you an idea of total costs. When all was said and done and added up the race cost us $7,500. This included 100% free labor for the cage and all fixes and safety equipment. The big ticket items are the cage ~$2,500 and safety equipment ~$2,000. Other than that there are the race entry fees, transport to the race track, ie.e trailer, and all of the other various odds and ends.

It is a great time for sure, but nowhere near as cheap as you would expect.

Also, get a vehicle with ample space and good cornering. You can't make up the speed on the straights, but you sure can in the corners. Also, great brakes and brake systems are an absolute key, along with tires.

Really the only way to go with a mazda race car is a first gen RX-7 or Miata. Cheap cars to buy plus corner great out of the box. It would still cost a bunch of money after you bought all the safety equip.

Just read an article about this in Car & Driver. Sounds like a blast.

I'm game, but would need others willing to make the committment for prep time and money. I've got time and some money, but not enough to do it by myself.
