VIN info??

Postby rush24 » Sat Oct 09, 2010 9:14

So I called up GO Mazda today to check with the parts department to see if they have the lower grille for my CX-7 in stock...and during the process the parts guy asked me for my VIN...of course I didn't give it to him...I thought that was really odd...all the other times I have called about parts they never asked before..

Any thoughts?

Or my first born....:D I was leaning more towards them using it to document warranty info.....If you walk in and buy a warranty replaceable part but don't get it replaced that way they document it.....meaning a easier way to void warranties.....Just a thought:D

Highly doubtful.....he found it just as easy without the VIN....and I doubt that there are too many variances of parts for the 2007 year..

You know I've had this problem with Lakewood Mazda with one guy. Usually with another guy there or at other dealerships they just look up the part. Also if they normally ask for your name and look it up they should have the VIN on the comp. If you've been to that dealer for service before.

It's a whole lot easier to find specific parts for vehicles in the parts catalog when you put in the VIN. Without it, you have to select model year, model, trim level, engine type, etc. etc. When you enter the VIN, it will filter parts out and only show what fits that specific vehicle. There's no record taken, no warranty stuff entered, that's all done through the service department. And even if it was, so what? What are you afraid of? You were only calling for a grille piece. Don't be a difficult customer, and you won't have a reason to complain about a difficult dealership.

+1

with the VIN it gives them a more accurate parts list. with that your can might have been manufactured right before or right after revisions/improvements.

Doesn't sound odd to me at all. Then they don't have to ask you any other questions to figure out what part you need. No need to be paranoid.

It's odd when they have never asked before.....and I've called in several times.....Plus I could care less...I'm already out of warranty....Just didn't seem right at the time.....Wanted to see if this was the norm.....:D

I was going to say the same thing. I was just at STH for some parts. Sean wasn't in and so I spoke to Jerry. He wasn't 100% he had the part I was asking for so he asked for my VIN. Found it it 10 seconds later.
