=(...smoking turbo

Postby Originalguy » Wed Jul 21, 2010 9:14

well...took my intercooler off today to get to the manifold so i could scope out room for ewg if i went big turbo (only a dream haha i was just curious if i had space) and found oil literally dripping out of the intercooler and covering the insides of the pipes and completely blacking out the turbo outlet...i looked at my throttle plate too and it was covered in black. Took us awhile to wipe everything down and ive got pics of what i found on the way...at this point im not sure what im going to do. What would be the best course of action?

My original k04 used to do the same thing...good ol shitty seals in the turbo! Some say its normal but if its excessive then it could be a problem. Just keep an eye on ur oil level.
Does the car smoke under boost or at idle?

only under boost at like 60% throttle and its not even that much smoke just a tiny bit of black and blue smoke which is weird because there was so much oil everywhere

Could also be PVC related. Was it still mostly wet? It's probably just a little oil that's taken a long time to blacken out the pipes.

Have you thought of installing a catch can. I would get oil inside my hot side boost tube until I installed one. Plus a have the PTP "pill" that has reduced my knock counts dramatically and is intended as a "smoking turbo fix". Not bad for $20.

if ur car isnt running your throttle plate wont open any further since its drive by wire...aka the cpu opens it up, so dont worry about that.

Catch cans are very underrated. It's a really great thing to get but not a lot of people get it because it's not a "cool" part and it doesn't increase performance. I would get a catch can Grant. I had oil on my turbo inlet when I did my inlet pipe install too so it's a problem for all motors but I think the DISI just has a bigger problem with it than most other motors. I'm actually surprised this isn't a more common topic on a lot of the forums.

Now look in your turbo inlet and see if there is oil on the blades and put your finger in the trubo outlet and see if there is a good amount of oil in that too.
Take your o2 sensor and see if that is fouled out with oil deposite, it should be noticalble...Next check your PCV valve and see if oil drips out of that or if its wet in there with oil.

Its got oil in both sides of the turbo, o2 sensor is a bit fouled but its brand new.
The pcv valve has oil but i dont have the valvecover breather tube plummed into the intake. I just have a cone breather on the valve cover.

Since i have my car all stock again and it still has a warranty, looks like ill take it in and see if i can get some shit replaced. Then the 2871r is going back on!
