Heat Soak...

So i know that one of the downsides to the ms6 engine is the tmic seeing as how it heat soaks, but i also know that if you have a continuous flow of air like when driving you dont soak. I was wondering what it takes for the innercooler to cool down after you sit at idle for awhile or like if you sit in parking lot traffic for about 30 minutes...does anyone know?

Technically, the intercooler will never cool down if the car is sitting idling. The engine is still running and sending heat up to the intercooler.

If you are talking about the car being off after being heat soaked, I would think you would start to see the intercooler start to cool off within 20 minutes, but the longer it sits the better off you are.

I see my charge temps hit 130 + even now(winter) if i run in for groceries........It will take a few minutes of driving and getting air over the TMIC to cool it off. I usually see a 30-50 degree temp drop in my 1.5 mile drive home at an average 35mph. If you are n the highway expect faster results. With the temps out lately I run an average 76 degrees on the highway home......... I love my 3.5 TMIC...........BEST MONEY SPENT TO DATE.

The ETS is more efficient, but you will still see heatsoak because the intercooler is sitting on top of the motor.. it will cool quicker, but nothing can stop your BATS from hitting 160-170 when youre sitting in rush hour in the summer.

The FMIC is an option, but Im not sold on the placement of ANY kit made for our cars yet.. They all block airflow to the radiator, causing ECT's to DRAMATICALLY rise, which creates more issues.

The best situation Ive seen for our MS6's is the ETS + water/meth injection.. you get the added efficiency of the larger core, plus you get instant cool air charges going directly into the intake manifold... If I EVER had heatsoak, (which I never saw), it was cured in an instant with a quick press on the gas pedal..

The meth injection works well with the stock intercooler as well, but it is not efficient enough to KEEP the charge air cold after being cooled by the water/meth injection.

Yeah I remember you telling me about your troubles with the cpe fmic

I had the same problem with the COBB FMIC. Cooler air but higher engine temps.

Chemical intercooling FTMFW!

Yea I'm definitely going upgraded TMIC over FMIC to avoid the radiator blockage, and I'm strongly considering a meth kit, though I have a lot of research still to do before attempting that install.

TMIC cooling?

At the risk of ridicule, what about mounting a thinline electric fan, say like a transmission radiator fan over it? There is enough clearance to mount withen the boundaries of the hood duct seal.

Yeah several evo guys I know run a system like that but I have no proof of it's efficiency

there may be enough room before you install a front mount intercooler, but definitely not after.

I think he meant to put the fan on the TMIC. Could be wrong on that though.

I dont see any way possible for that to work

Maybe if you had two it three small fans in the grill they could just be activated when you're sitting idle but then at higher speeds they would most likely just get in the way of airflow I don't see how it works or why you would spend any money on that but people have tried it...
