Another stupid question

I haven't seen this discussed anywhere yet. So when I select the floor, defrost, or floor/defrost mix- my a/c compressor goes on.

Does anyone else have this problem and find it as annoying as I do?

I believe this is normal. Part of the defrost process requires use of the A/C, but no I can't explain why.
I know this same behavior happens in our Civic.

IDK Havn't noticed that. DO you have the A/C button on? Not like I can help you there cause my car is getting a touch up with Dr. Dean. 1 more week. I hope.

I believe it uses the A/C to dehumidify the air so your windows won't fog up.

Interesting. At first, I thought it was a problem that needed fixing. But upon further research, it does seem to be happening by design. That's odd that Honda and Subura does this too.

I don't know, it just seems retarded to me:huh:.

Sometimes retarded just makes sense. But be careful not to go full retard.

You'd actually be surprised how often the compressor runs. Tbot found out exactly which times it runs. Hopefully he'll log in soon and be able to share his profound knowledge with us...

What poem is that from? Is that James Joyce?

I'll second that. It's used to dehumidify the air.

Everybody knows you never go full retard.

But yes, the a/c is supposed to kick in during defrost in order to clear the windows faster.

Does it make common sense, especially in the winter? No.

Does it work? yes. Faster than waiting for the heater to warm up.

Air conditioning works by pulling moisture out of the air, so it prevents fogging of your windows. It's how A/C works

the compressor runs when the a/c is on, the defrost, the floor, and/or any combination of those
