Just drove my buddy's GT 500! Nothin like 550hp, this car rips!
I know its a ford but hey...the best retroed car out of the camaro & challenger. Only if mazda could pull their head out of their ass and step up and produce a 400hp car...at least!:)
Maybe if you put 20-30k into a MS3 or MS6 you could hit 500hp...i havent seen one yet! They need to remake the rx-7 and not make it look like the rx-8!

I drive a car from Japan, with a motor developed by Mazda, with assistance by Ford. Doesn't make it a Focus. With that said, I used to own an Expedition, am currently considering a F-150 or 250, and like the GT500. Nothing really wrong with Ford. Except their ugly big ass chrome grilles.
Anyone looked at the new Taurus SHO?

This is so far from correct. Ford used to own a majority share in Mazda, and yes, both companies helped one another with development and parts, but that is certainly not grounds to call a Mazda a Ford, or vice versa.
OP: PICS please!! I love the GT500! You are a lucky guy! I would love to drive a GT500.

Ok, let me put it better this way.. Ford owns a major part of mazda.. Ford helped mazda out in the 90's when Mazda was failing,, they share alot of the same parts that goes into their cars.. Alot of the mazdas are made in the Ford plants here in the US.. Ford also owns owns lincoln, mercury, volvo, jaguar, land rover, aston martin.. The mazda 6 frame is also the same frame used for the ford 500 or the fusion,, cant remember which one.. So yes, a Mazda is a ford if you get right down to it.. Im not much of a ford fan myself. But I cant deny that I didnt own one cuz when it comes down to it.. Mazda is a Ford.. Just like Scion is a toyota aswell as Lexus is a toyota.. and how a Infinity G35 is also a nissan, or same a Datsun.. They are all sub owned by one of the major companies out there.. GM, FORD, CHRYSLER, etc...
Ford owns a 13.8% share of Mazda. That a major part does not make.
Also, Lexus is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota, so saying a lexus is a toyota is factually correct. However, saying a mazda is a ford is a myth. Yes they share parts and engines, but they are just platforms to work off of. Each company does their own thing after that.

Back in November, 2008, Mazda bought back a major part of it's shares from Ford and thus Ford only owns 13.8% of Mazda. http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/2008-11-19-234833617_x.htm
Comparing the Toyota/Lexus ownership to the Ford/Mazda union is COMPLETELY wrong, since Toyota owns Lexus as a whole and is Toyota's luxury division. Ford doesn't even have controlling interested in Mazda currently.
It's true they share technology, but Ford doesn't tell Mazda what to do. There is no Ford part on the RX-8 or Miata, they are completely Mazda.
Anyways, I wish Mazda would make a fast sports car, because they are really behind the game. The MS3 is fast, but it isn't on the same level as a GT500 or a true sports car. The RX-8 isn't even close to the new 370Z, the old RX-8/350Z competition is all but over. RX-8 has 232-bhp and the 370Z has 332-bhp! Not even close.
Mazda is developing the new 16X rotary engine, but I'm afraid the EPA will shut it down. Rotaries don't get along with emissions since then burn oil by design, and don't get very good fuel efficiency. Not to mention the average driver/owner has NO clue how to maintain a rotary and thus Mazda takes it up the ass with handing out warranty engines, just like they currently are with the RX-8....which drives up prices of other models to recoup cost.
And they should just let the RX-7 remain retired...there is too much risk reviving such a historic moniker and messing it up with a terrible car. No one would want a non-turbo RX-7, regardless if it had a new 1.6L 16X rotary engine. It would still be under 300-bhp, even closer to 275 crank horsepower, so well under 240-rwhp, which would be slow by the time it comes out in 3-5 years.

that twin turbo v6 thingy just ran a stock 12.75 back East last week. My man has made a mention of getting me one and just making it a track car.

That's way off the 14.1 and 13.9's that I have seen every other SHO run in the magazine tests and youtube videos.... likely far from stock.

I thought the 16X was being specifically designed with better emissions and gas mileage in mind? It's true that a rotary will always be worse on those by design, but I don't think it'll get shut down because of that. Who knows, though...EPA is tightening their standards, and so are many states, Colorado included.
I agree that the general public doesn't know how to take care of a rotary, but it's always been that way, and it's not really their fault. Mazda doesn't really make it a point to say that rotary engines are high maintenance. It's kind of a Catch 22---they could certainly save money on engine replacements by offering training courses / manuals of some sort on how to care for a rotary. But, by doing that, they'd make the car so much harder to get off the lot, especially in today's market.
I personally would LOVE a new RX-7 with a 240WHP N/A rotary. I agree it is risky but I feel it CAN be done. The 370Z would be the car's only real competition, unless Toyota puts the FT86 in production. If they could just make it small and light like a true RX-7 should be, say 2500-2800 lbs dry, it would be fast enough for the general public. IMO the RX-7 has always been more of a true sports car than the competition...and not because of power, although FDs certainly weren't slow for their time. Perhaps Mazdaspeed could offer a turbo kit for those owners who want more power...people are going to be doing it anyway. Only problem with that is that it would require even more R&D to make it reliable.
