Psi

Hey guys

I was wondering on how putting a wastegate the pushes 9 psi instead of the stock 6 would affect my all stock MSP?

Also what upgrades should i look at getting to adjust for the increase of PSI?

it will increase boost.

so instead of the waste gate opening at the stock 'X'psi.... When this new boost level is reached, the valve will open and begin to bypass exhaust gas, preventing boost from increasing. you can do this by adjusting waste gate springs or shimming them instead of getting a whole new waste gate (assuming you have an external waste gate)

this will require some adjustment to the engine fuel management system as well.



i dont own an MSP or a FI car, so this is about where my knowledge ends...

You will more than likely go Zoom Zoom BOOM!

The MSP's FE 4-cylinder engine isn't that stout, and a stock block is prone to blowing up as it is...increase the boost and you're playing with fire.

Not to mention you will need more than likely upgrade your engine management as it can't adjust for the increase in fuel requirements, and ignition timing events.

Bottom line: Don't do it unless you can afford a new motor

How do you know?

Have you seen how fragile the MSP motors are??!!! They blow at STOCK BOOST, let alone more than stock boost. It's just a normal NA FS motor with a turbo kit slapped on, no upgraded internals

Out of the 5 MSP's I've seen, all of them were on replacement motors.

9 psi on a fs-de motor "might". The protege motor (turbo or not) is not all that strong.

all depends how u drive it. ive seen countless MS3 engines blow on their 'stock' settings.

ive also seen a few MSprotege's running 10+psi with no problems...


there's always a rule and an exception.

but like mazda tom said, it 'might' do damage.

I've never seen a stock block MSP run 10psi for long.

But I stick by my original statement, "Don't do it unless you can afford a new motor"

That really goes for any car with boost and turning it up

I can't tell you how many blown motors I've seen from people that slap on boost controller and crank it up.

Im not familiar with the proteges too much, but dont they use a wastegate solenoid as well?

MSPs respond really well to some timing and fuel adjustments. Get something like a Split Second piggyback and tune.

Start there.

Yeah they have a factory WG solenoid that likes to cut boost to 4psi at random intervals.
