meh, most of those are modded...which makes it scary to mod maybe...but not stock. I do love the one report of:
"I got my car back from the dealer a few weeks ago (11-22-08) after they rebuilt the transmission and replaced the clutch(this is a story of frustration all in itself). Last week the motor shot a rod through the block at aprprox. 50mph and out of boost. The car had 38 miles on it from the time i picked it up from the dealer(keep in mind it passed their complete "free" full circle service card inspection) until the motor blew in addition to being STOCK.I finally got around to having the car towed to the dealer, and the first thing i was told was i need to provide them with the history of the car's oil maintenance. I hope they warranty this without the drama that happened with the tranny. BTW, it appears this is nothing new considering the reaction i got @ the dealer when i took it to the service department. I am so pissed, 3 months of car note payments for less than an hour worth of driving. Im selling the car when i get it back."

IMO, this guy abused the ass off his car. Rebuilt tranny and replaced clutch on less than 3 months of ownership...and the engine blows. Hmmm...

Truth be told though, there also isn't a thread with "Successfully modded for XXX amount of miles and happy", because people aren't as motivated when they are happy.

Wow, most of the blown motors seem to be thrown rods.... interesting. On the Subie boards, throwing rods doesn't seem to be very common, however there are a TON of Subie's with cracked ringlands. It would have been nice if Subaru would have tossed in a set of forged pistons *sigh*. Although most (almost all) of the cracked ringlands are a result of detonation. The fact that I don't see many MS3's with cracked ringlands tells me they're pretty det resistant (I can only assume due to DI).

In the past, most of the time with a spun rod/bearing, it's been a result of oil starvation, with the occasional over revving.

I agree with the above though, probably countless cars that are modded for XXX miles without issue that just don't post up. One thing I've learned: everyone is "innocent" on the internet hahaha.
