Drove through some water after the storms this afternoon and the engine died, Im thinking the warranty probably isnt going to cover this...althought the car did have the Mazdaspeed CAI on the car when I got it and im pretty sure thats where the water got in. Not the best day ever.

On top of this, last week my WRX's engine blew due to Autolube putting too much oil. Luckily Subaru is paying for that one to get fixed and should be done early next week.

Maybe I should just get a vespa and call it good.

damn dude! ive never heard of anyone actually being hit with a hydrolock issue. how deep was the water?

and im sure if it was a MS CAI that was on when you bought the car, it will be covered.

get a smart car...its the intelligent thing to do.

the water was maybe 6-8 inches....didnt look that bad going into it...lots of other cars made it through...but they werent lowered with a CAI. We will see what happens i guess.

Warranty won't cover hydrolock. Insurance will. I'd like to help you out with your repairs or parts if you're going to have the work done at a dealer. Call me Monday at Courtesy Mazda. 303-678-8950.

the lowered part probly did it iin for you...hope you get it back up and running again soon!

Wow, that blows. Hopefully insurance takes care of it quickly for you!

Sorry to hear about that. Ya I know exactly how you feel. That happened to mine about a month ago. Somehow I came out of it with no damage what so ever... so far. Water was in my turbo and in the cylinders. When mine happened the car would still crank so it was not exactly hydro locked. I don't know what your situation is exactly but maybe you will get lucky like me and they can just blow the system out and everything will be fine.

A guy in Tucson, Arizona had his MS6 get hydrolocked. Mazda bought him a new engine. I don't know all the details but I do know a dealership handled the swap, etc. I could give you his info if you want so you could find out more.

Sorry to hear that, dude. What a run of bad luck. That's why I will never have a CAI. IMHO, the gains are not worth the risk, since we tend to get some high water around here.

Looking back on this, I should have gone with a short ram intake instead :0, still waiting on word from Gateway Mazda (pretty much the last dealership i want the car at right now)

Just got the call from the dealer, there is water in the manifold and it needs the engine replaced. The insurance will cover it, not the warranty obviously. They say about a week til the engine gets in...so im guessing about two weeks til its done. I will be changing to short ram intake as soon as i get the car back, anyone hack their mazdaspeed intakes? Also, does anyone think there will be an issue with the dealership working with my mods (TMIC, BOV, exhaust and other random stuff) or would this only be an issue if this was warranty work??

Good news is the WRX should be done by the end of this week with a new engine and new turbo.

Completely unrelated here, but I just took off my CAI on my Protege and went back to the stock air box. The seat of the pants dyno tells me there is no difference and it almost feels like it pulls just a little better with the stock air box.

Plus I just sold my CAI for $125 and I paid less than that for it at the Cardomain blowout sale a year or so ago.

my seat of my pants dyno tells me my car pulls harder when I have a full tank of gas...i dont trust that dyno anymore..haha
