I wanted a Ruckus for awhile for tooling around the neighborhood, quick grocery runs, etc. I liked the idea of the "Big Ruckus" as I've heard the 49cc is pretty sluggish as opposed to the 250cc Big Ruckus. Granted you'd have to license it for the street...

I can't look at a scooter without laughing, so I don't think I could own one either.

I roll a Piaggio Typhoon. Belongs to my GF, but I'll roll it any day. And I used to own a Yamaha R1. Scooters are a fun, cheap and easy and CHEAP way to get around, so long as you don't need to go much over 35. The Typhoon is a higher quality scooter, so it's a bit more powerful. The Ruckus should be just as easy to mod. Do a big bore kit, carb and exhaust and you get the benefits of a 50cc such as no MC license or plates needed, park at the bike racks, etc. but you also don't need to be stuck at 35-40 MPH. The Honda owners tend to be proud of their little scooters and ask a bit too much. I'd pay no more than $1000-$1100 for a nice newer one.

you could always pick up a used '04-'08 kawasaki 250 ninja (like a scooter/dirtbike on steroids). I used to own one (was my first bike) more practical than a scooter as you can take them anywhere rather than just residential 25-40mph zones. and theyre cheap, used $1000 and get 50-75mpg depending on how hard you ride it.

Some people want a 50cc specifically to not need registration, motorcycle license and to park at bike racks.
