So I posted awhile back that we'd purchased a 2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo from CARMAX. Got a great deal on it, great buying experience, etc.

Well, we found a couple of small problems with it that we needed fixed, so within the 30 days where everything is fixed free, we took it back to them. In two visits, this is what they fixed:

1. Leaking rain into driver's side A-Pillar. Discovered a tube from the sunroof was clogged. Replaced tube, cleaned out a-pillar to prevent rust, shampooed that side of the cabin. Leak is gone.

2. Squeaking right front brake. Found hot-spots on pads, which still have PLENTY of room left. Treated pads on all four wheels. Squeak is gone.

3. Tailgate pneumatic lifters not working. Ordered factory parts from Jeep and replaced both. Now working great.

4. Discovered metallic, bright-green liquid in the engine bay. Coolant is orange, so I had no idea what it was. They did a complete pressure check and found no leaks. Unfortunately, could not determine where the fluid came from because NONE of the Jeep's fluids are green. Still perplexing, but not a leak.

5. Factory CD player eats CDs. Sent the Jeep to Car-Toys and had them install an Alpine CD/Radio/MP3/USB/iPod-compatible, blue-tooth ready stereo. The factory one was just a CD player with radio. So while it isn't Alpine's top of the line model, it's a hell of an upgrade.

SO far, CARMAX has been WONDERFUL. I highly recommend them if you're looking for a used car or service. Top-notch.

Good grief! Those people have you set!

I'll have to keep them in mind.

That's impressive. Used dealer with a Customer Intimacy strategy. Interesting, as previous to that, I'd only imagined CarMax as the Wal-Mart of the dealership industry.

Their salespeople are LOW pressure. Why? They're salaried. THey get an additional $150 per car sold, but no true commission. And $250 if they sell it with a warranty.

The ENTIRE buying process took 3 hours, and we left/came back twice during it.

The warranty is bumper-to-bumper and our cost is a $50 deductible if it is serviced at CARMAX and $75 if it is serviced elsewhere.
