So I have a 2006 Mazdaspeed6 and I changed my oil and filter today, no problem. But I want to flush my transmission and I dont really know how on this car... I am not even sure where the drain hole is, let alone how to fill it back up! Do you need a pump to get the tranny fluid in? If you have a speed6 I am sure you have done this so please let me know!

I have an MS6, but I can't really help. Sadly DIY automotive work, never really agreed with me. I can barely put gas in my car.

So I looked at that mazda forum link and it helped a lot, but I am still kinda unsure of what the difference between your transmission, tranfer case, and differential case is? Furthermore, what do I need to flush in my car?

Transmission is up front and is what the motor attaches to the motor also if I'm not mistaken it is similar to a FWD car. The trasfer case is further back from there and is what distributes power to the rear wheels through a drive shaft. The differential case is in the rear center and splits the power that comes down the drive shaft to each of the rear wheels.

Is that what you where looking for? if you can get a pic of the full underside of a speed6 I can show you what I mean.

As far as flushing goes, you would have to take it somewhere where they have a machine to do that it hooks up to the fill and drains out the drain runs fresh tranny fluid through the transmission under pressure getting out almost all the old fluid that may be hiding in all those nooks. I have done this on my 4runner that is automatic, but never on a manual. I let it drain for a good hour until I saw not a drip out of it and then filled it back up. I know jiffy lube has those machines. and its about $100 if I remember right. I don't think it is neccesary on a manual, but if I am wrong somebody chime in......

Maybe its just me, but the few times I've had the tranny flushed, it seemed to make things rougher. Any particular reason why you're wanting to do it?

With that said, I do eventually want to put some Redline in mine. But am a bit hesitant to mess with something that doesn't necessarily have a "need" for it.

Can you flush a manual transmission? Automatics can be flushed because you can hook up the machine to the transmission cooler input/output lines. Typically, a manual isn't externally cooled since it operates at a much lower temp compared to an automatic. And without such lines on a manual transmission, there is no where to hook up the flushing machine. Manual transmissions are usually just drained and filled periodically.

Thats what I was thinking never heard it done before, nor done it my self......makes sense with connecting to the trans cooler in and out lines.....

Yup, to clarify- both times I had it done were on automatics.

Well yeah I think its a drain and fill on a manual... you can only 'flush' automatics but the reason I want to do it is cause my car has 30000 miles on it and its recomended to change tranny fluid at 30,000 miles. But basically, from what I am hearing, I can't really do it myself?

If you can change your oil, you can change your transmission fluid.

Agreed. To clarify, on an automatic you'd need a machine-type deal. To drain and fill, you'd just need a "pump" to get the fluid in...right?

I did it on my speed6. It is a basic drain and refill just like an oil change- takes about 10 minutes. It helps to have a hand pump to refill it (one person can do easily). I bought a 1 qt hand pump at checker- used it with the redline MT90 bottles. Easy stuff. PM me for more details on actual locations. I'll be doing an oil change this weekend on mine and will refresh my memory on the exact bolt locations.

While you are under the car- if you have not drained/refilled the rear diff then now is the time. Mine had 32k and was grey and smelly. That one most definitely requires a hand pump. It's a bit slow- but very easy...
