Out of the dozen or so comparos the Speed3 has been in, I think it's won every one of them?!? In my opinion, the following are the best bangs for bucks in their segments.

$20,000 range:

-Mazdaspeed 3 (in it's price range, nothing in it's price range will beat it's overall performance, combined with fit & finish, by overall I mean acceleration, handling, braking ect)
-SRT-4 (Last generation, mostly for drag racing/freeway rolls lol, but the ACR even excelled at handling)

$30,000 range:

-EVO
-STI (EVO & STI are both all-around badasses, acceleration, braking, handling ect)
-GTO (For drag racing purposes)

$40,000 range

-C6 Corvette (starting at $46k, nothing else offers this kind of acceleration from standard 430hp motor, light-weight, uber-responsive chassis & fade free brakes, one of the best bang for bucks on earth IMO)

"More than you can afford pal" range-

-C6 Corvette Z06 (able to embarrass over-priced European "supercars" for a fraction of the price, in all matters of performance, I even predict it will smoke Nissan's upcoming GT-R around a road course for around the same price)

I would of added to Mustang to your list.

The GT-R is one ugly car, the older ones were much better looking.

I would agree the speed3 is a sweet car at a sweet price! others are trying to jump on this but I don't
see the dodge caliber really comparing to the 3 on so many levels.

All recent Mazdas have won comparos of some type. The CX-9 won Motor Trend's goofy award. RX-8 on C&Ds 10 Best. The 6 on Edmunds list forever as well. Mazda makes more driver's cars across the board rather than just mere transportation.

Right now, the Speed3 is top of the heap for it's class. And given what's in the pipe from other manufacturers, looks like it should be there for a while.

Well, I considered it, but honestly before I added the Mustang, I would add the new 306hp 350Z, as the 306hp version of the Z runs the same 1/4 mile times as the Mustang GT, but will run away from the Mustang in anything other than a straight line.... the only thing that sucks is neither one is that quick up at this altitude when compared to the turbocharged cars in it's price range due to them both being NA cars.

Mazda for good reason in most cases. My experience with anything but a Toyota (in the past) has lead me to Mazda.

^ Same here. I have own a little bit of everything, and I have never had a problem with the 2 Mazda's that I have owned. Which makes me want to stay with their company, until something does go terribly wrong.

My first Mazda, too, and I could NOT be happier. Had some issues with the TPM, but that seems to have been fixed. Having bought a first year production model, it amazes me that the very few issues I've had have been minor. My partner had an '06 Civic (first production year for the new model) and had ALL KINDS of issues with it. He traded it within a year.
