Pressure tester

After reading about all the issues with boost leaks that people have after installing a front mount intercooler, I thought it would be wise to make a pressure leak tester.

Most of these parts are at Home Depot, but I got the gauge from a friend for $12. I can get more if anybody wants to design their own. This is designed to clamp directly to the turbo inlet pipe on a speed3/speed6.

Image

Parts needed:

2" to 1 1/2" reducing coupler
1 1/2" plug
1/4" male x 1/4" male
1/4" female tee
1/4" to 1/8" reducer for gauge
1/4" to standard air valve
teflon

Teflon all parts and wrench together as shown in picture.

To test pressure:

Remove CAI/SRI from the stock turbo inlet pipe. Install pressure tester on pipe and clamp down. Pressurize the system to desired psi. If pressure stays, there are no leaks. If the pressure drops, listen for hissing leaks throughout all couplers and hoses. Use soap and water on rubber couplers to help with finding leaks. Adjust or tighten clamps, and check again. When finished, releive the pressure in the system the same way you would on a bike tire..

If anybody is too lazy to make their own, feel free to use mine. Let me know

As an SRT-4 owner, I've learned how important it is to do regular boost leak tests. You don't want to line up next to a car you know you should pull, and when you don't, be asking yourself WTF?? Especially since the MS3 doesn't come with a boost gauge. It's a good idea to boost leak test a few times a year.

Good post.
