I live in the springs as some of you may know, and I'm about to hit the big 60k.I'm wondering if there is anyone who can help me with the maintenance required at 60k, or tell me what I need and where to go. I want to get it done for a reasonable amount considering college, car payment, gas and general living takes most of my funds. Please let me know asap, thanks.

You don't need much really. Plugs should be changed every 30,000 miles. Frankly, I think those iridium plugs are a waste on the Protege motor. A set of NGK copper plugs work just as well and are cheaper.

Radiator probably needs to be flushed. I just flushed mine after only 30,000 miles and got some funky colored water out of it.

Change oil.

Rotate tires.

I replaced my power steering fluid at 30,000 miles and should probably do it again now that I've also broken the 60,000 mile mark.

Since you have a manual transmission, I don't know the fluid interval for that.

The valves in the cylinder head are suppose to be checked and adjusted at 60,000, but I don't know of anyone that does that.

How are your brakes? I wore both my front and back brakes down to their backing plates right around 50,000 miles.

I plan on being in my garage most of the day this coming Friday cleaning my car and cleaning the garage. I'm in Highlands Ranch. You're welcome to drive on up and I'll help knock these out of the way if you're interested.

coolant, tranny fluid, oil, air filter, wiper blades, (im not sure what they say for the timing belt) just the general maintenance.

The Manual tranny is easy, remove the lower tranny drain plug, remove the top (filler) bolt, install new washers on both, install bottom plug, install fluid until it starts dripping out the fill hole, and youre done.

same with coolant, remove the drain plug, relieve the pressure by removing the radiator cap, and drain and fill.

that sounds about right.

How do you do the power steering fluid?

I took a turkey baster, sucked the old fluid out, poured in new fluid, ran the steering from lock to lock a couple times, sucked out more fluid and repeated until I was sucking out about the same color of fluid that was going in.

for everyone else, what about belts? don't those need to be switched out at 60k?

Belts need to be replaced when they show signs of cracking or other deteroriation. Whether that be 60K miles, 30K miles or 200K miles. Inspect your belts. Or you can replace them- I wanna say they are about $10-$20 each, so you can chalk them up to relatively cheap preventative maintainence.

drive belts? does that mean pretty much all the belts? timing,etc.? and if so what belts should I get.
