OK the rental car i got here in MO takes E85. Do i have to completly drain te gas tank beofre i fill up with E85 or will it mix? Do i need to hit a button somewhere to switch it over or does it do it automatically? I knownothing about this crap but i deff dont wanna mess up this stupid rental car.

There's no switch. I'm sure you can mix it. I think all it'd do for that remainder of the tank is make the octane less. Say there is 85 in there and you put in E85. It'll mix out and be a higher octane than 85 but be lower than E85. So say it'll make it 87 octane. That's just my O though. So if you brake it don't blame me.

There is nothing to do. You can use E85 straight up, a mix of E85 and standard fuel, or just straight standard fuel. The engine/computer is suppose to be able to tell what kind of mixture(s) you are running and adjust accordingly.

There's no switch, and you don't have to go completely empty. It will be cheaper to fill it, but not necessarily cheaper to drive it on E-85, since you get way less gas mileage on E-85. If you have to fill the tank to a certain level before returning the car, make sure you use E-85 then, since it will be a cheaper fill up for gas that you're not gonna use anyway. You'll spend less to get the tank up to that certain level.

My Littleton cop friend drive a Chevy Tahoe police cruiser. He just got a brand new one and the city bought a big tank of E-85 to be used in the city's vehicles. The new Tahoe on E-85 gets something like 7 mpgs while the older Tahoe got 12 mpgs on regular gas.

They are still collecting the data on whether or not it will be cheaper in the long run.

I've always found E85 to be somewhat comical. As mentioned, it burns quicker than petroleum based fuel, you have to drive umteen miles just to find a station (therefore burning additional fuel), and there will never be the ability/land/etc. to grow as much corn as you'd need to facilitate any sort of volume (as there is with oil)....not to mention the corn we take away from the "general corn population" raises the cost of food prices in general-

If the cost difference between E85 and gasoline is 20% or more, you'll save money. E85 gives about 20% less fuel economy for the same power output. And the average octane rating of E85 is 100-105.

im pretty sure they dont have 85 octane in mo... its only places above like 5500 ft that do that. but e85 is not 85 octane anyways... its 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline... it burns hotter or some shit supposedly ... i ran it in my 3 a few times for a full tank and noticed better performance but way less gas mileage (like 5 mpg difference from my usual 30+) but i threw a code every time because because the computer would try to lean out. woo cim crazy right lol

Dude, E85 will tear your fuel system up. And your injectors were probably very unhappy.

This is the most accurate statement in this post. E85 will not tear up your injectors or fuel system. The grass based ethanol is called cellulose ethanol. It can be made from grass, recycled newspaper, sugar cane and a multitude of other crap that we don't have to cultivate or spend money on to acquire. The problem with E85 is the Air Fuel ratio that your engine has to run at for it to work. With gasoline it should be in the range of 13:1 to 14.5:1, depending on a number of variables. E85 has to be a lot richer, so your fuel system makes the adjustment via the pre-programmed closed loop ecu paramaters. It just doesn't make as much power per unit as gas does, that's why it uses a larger quantity of fuel to go the same distances. The corn farmers have been playing the E85 angle for more than 20 years, so the lobbiyng and special interest crap in Washington has screwed us again. Cellulose ethanol would be tremendously cheaper, and Colorado has the prairie grasses to produce it growing wild for free.

Yeah this vans gotta last me a month. They didnt have any other ones and theres a bunch of us here that wouldnt fit in a regular car.

E85 = Free HP for turbo cars to the tune of 50-60 HP!

I'm saving the environment one quarter mile pass at a time!

P.S. E85 burns waaaay cool. If you run it on your boosted ride, you can advance your timing like an NA car without risk of detonation. (Even more HP!)
