About to get a new speed and am seriously considering a CAI. I am currently in Colorado but may be moving to Pittsburgh where it rains considerably more. Im worried that i will vapor lock the engine driving on wet streets with high humidity year round with the CAI installed. Is this something to be concerned about?
Also, will the dealership void the warrently is you install the ms CAI yourself, i have heard both yes and no but has anyone had any experience with this?

Two things one you can hydrolock your engine with a CAI if you SUBMERGE it in water it is possible. Do not try to forde a river and you will be good Secondly if you really do want a CAI you can make it a Short ram for when its the rainy season by just taking apart some of the tubing as its a two piece tube.

Vapor lock = filling gas to the top after the pump stops the gas from pumping

Hydro lock = getting water in your engine and it stopping.

Also the dealership has no way to know if you or a dealership installs the CAI really so your fine. I really wouldn't worry about it too much and I could install it for you free if you want.

From what i have heard its a relativly easy install. Thanks for the correction on vaporlock.

You could also go with a CAI and just add a hydro shield. I think CPE has one available for their intake.

Stay away from the Mazdaspeed/AEM intake as Mazda has pulled it from their shelves due to some problems with it.

I think your best best is CPE CAI or a COBB SRI.

Will putting a cpe or cobb sri intake on a speed void the warranty? After doing a bunch of reading, i heard the cpe was maybe just a bit better the the MS, but i liked the idea of my warrenty being good.

Actually vapor lock occurs when the fuel changes state (from a liquid to a gas) while still in the fuel pump system (pump, lines, filter, carburator....) either from excessive heating of the fuel (engine too hot) or due to lower pressure (high altitude) which causes the the fuel system to lose pressure and stall the engine.

Mazda will void your warranty if you hydrolock the engine and have a CAI. However, if your tranny goes out they can't void your warranty over the CAI unless they can prove that the CAI causes the tranny failure, which would never happen.

The key is to find a dealership that is tolerant of mods, or return your car to stock when you go in for a dealer visit.

They don't meet the emisions standards for Cali. So they just pulled them all just to be "safe". They don't want to pay for smog tickets because there intake says 50 state smog legal.

I have an '08 Speed3 and put the Cobb SRI on it. Friggin LOVED it. Last week threw a CEL, had to replace the intake with the stock again, now no light...and no hissing and fluttering from the BOV. Just an FYI I guess. Car pulled SO hard with the Cobb.

Are there any of you SPEED3 guys running a CP-E intake? It seems like most of you all have the Cobb. Just wondering.

none of us have CPE up here. Only reason is SRI = sex and CAI = CAI :P

I have a ms cai and have had no problem's with it. Always has worked great and never a cel.
