2006 Mazdaspeed6 FMIC. Worth it?

Hi guys, I am from Canada and new to this forum. I have been reading all of the posts, and all of them have been very helpful.

Anyways, here is my dilema.

I am looking to add an FMIC to my speed6, and am just wondering if you guys think it is worth the cost. The one i've had my eye on is the one from CP-E (but it is damn pricey!!!!!).

I currently have a fujita CAI, magnaflow cat-back exhaust, and have the CP-E DP on order.

I would appreciate any input you guys could offer.

I think a FMIC would be great for this car, as heat soak sucks, but I would see about having is done custom. It should be much cheaper to do, and it will get you in good with a shop.

although I don't have a ms6 or the need for a intercooler, i agree with patrick and think custom is the way to go...

I will definitely do so. I will be going to my local shop tomorrow and see what they can do for me. Hopefully they know what they're doing/talking about LOL.

Lawben- What altitude is winnipeg at? is is it high like Denver (approx 5280' above sea level)

Just curious if you guys face some of the issues up there that we face down here, i.e. low Dyno runs and slower 1/4 miles and for that matter do you guys have drag strips up there, and if you do- do they measure it in meters or what.

Realize, you're not going to see much (if any) horsepower gain at close to stock horsepower levels, unless of course the core has a lower pressure drop than stock (most likely it will), in which case, the power gained would be more attributed to increased boost levels at the manifold, which, there's a good chance the ECU will eventually recognize the additional boost at the manifold, and have the BCS to taper boost accordingly... in other words, the car will likely feel faster at first, but without EM, will eventually lose some of it's newfound power.

Now, with that said, I could see your IAT's being slightly lower with a FMIC, which could help make a couple extra ponies, but more importantly, the lower IAT's combined with a FMIC's resistance to heat soak would keep detonation/knock down... keeping the knock count down will result in the ECU being less likely to pull timing/add fuel, which would mean, well, you know how every once and a while, especially when it's hot, your car suddenly feels ball-less? That will go down drastically, making your car MUCH more consistent, instead of being so "hit-or-miss" like it gets sometimes. Overall though, a FMIC is a good idea just to get rid of the heat sink of a TMIC that the car comes with stock. In order to really get more power out of the upgrade though, you're going to want to at least get some form of EM and tune the car for your mods.... tuning, that's where you're going to really make more power, but still, a FMIC is never a bad idea if you have the funds. Just my $.02

Hi guys. I first off just want to thank you guys for such a warm welcome to your forum. I have visited a few of them, but this one has helped me out the most as far as information goes. Now with that out of the way....

Here in Winnipeg, we are right in the heart of the prairies, so it is basically as flat as can be. I haven't taken my car out to the track, but we do have a drag strip, and yes it is measured in the standard 1/4 mile.

I am a bit of a technical doofus (but I'm trying to learn).

So do you think I would be better off getting some sort of engine management system instead of the fmic to start? I am on a bit of a budget.

Maybe I should mention that this is basically my daily driver, (I am a stay at home mom, and my sweet hubby has opted to drive the family beater and leave me with the nicer vehicle), but once I drop the little one off to daycare, I do like to do some "spirited" driving. Plus, I don't think my hubby would mind the additional mods. LOL.

An e-manage would be the biggest noticeable increase in performance, but depending on which one you get, you may be kissing your warranty good by. CP-E makes an EMS for the speed6 that iv heard is very good. And Cobb is still (2 years in the making) working on an Accessport for the speed6. With the Cobb if it ever comes out for the speed6, you wont necessarily have to give up your warranty as you would be able to switch the map back to stock for dealer visits and then put the "fun" map back on when you leave the dealer.... but that is only if Cobb ends up completing an Accessport for the speed6.

Yes. I wouldn't want to void my warranty.
I have heard of a Plug and Play EMS, called PROCEED.....has anyone heard of this.

I am now defntly leaning towards the EMS first, and perhaps save up some money for the FMIC.

Cp-e's standback comes with a bypass plug that can be installed during dealer visits.

We have a TMIC from ETS and with the new carbon fiber hood ther is no heat soak at all its great.The good thing about the TMIC is you can take it off in like 5 mins to take it back to the dealer if need be.

I have also looked into the CP-E EMS system, but I think I will wait for the COBB to come out and see which would best suit my needs.

I hate to break your heart my friend, but you may be waiting for an AP for a LOOONG time, as a matter of fact it may never come. Take a look over on the Cobb forums, it's been a LONG time since they replied to any direct questions concerning the AP on a Speed6:

^^^I had a Speed6, and when I talked to Cobb when I first bought it, I was told they should have an AP available for the Speed6 around November... of 2006... a year and a half later still no AP :lol:

It's funny to see their change in attitude towards it... they thought the Speed3 and Speed6 were going to have the same ECU... so they started marketing for the Speed6... then, they found out they have different ECU's, and mysteriously stopped advertising for the Speed6 and have only concentrated on the Speed3 since then. It's sad, but true. Either way, good luck.

definately a meaner look to any speed but really not necc. I'd prefer a vented hood but such is high priced and rare. But like arctic said Different ECU's and I'm not totally sure about a FMIC as a needed item.
