So, '90 1.6L is ok, just avoid 91-91.5's? Is it kind of like the old DSM motors where the 6-bolt motors ran great but 7-bolt's had crank walk issues/manufacturing design that is a known issue?
I would really appreciate any info you might be able to share
EDIT: this explains a lot:

Hmmm, are the pulley keyway failures really that common on the 90-91's? I'm a bit more wary about the car posted above now...
These are durable engines. In Keith Tanner's books he states that some avoid the "small" nose engines, but in that writing states that his current 3 are all small nosed. I think it boils down to maint. That nose may be hurt or in great shape (crap game). If the belt has been changed and it has 50K or so until the next time (belt change) I'd flog it. If you learn that in a couple months/years repairs are needed to that crank.....
None of our engines are going to last long without oil! Without a dissasembly, who knows. How cars were treated is part of buying used (and not having a payment).
My 99 is one of the "crank thrust washer" problem cars to be avoided. It has over 100k and I've killed the clutch switch so I do not worry about it. If I have to find or build an engine one day, I will. Call that seller (if you are considering it) and ask about the maintenance. He is probably well aware of the crank issue and can tell you more.
