I guess according to Mazda, the MS6 was meant to compete with the Legacy and TL... a little more luxury than the boy racer cars I guess.

The reason is that they wanted to keep a drivers car under 30k. Im pretty sure they out sell sti and evo cars too.

So the wrx base is 25,595 up to 29095 for a premium a mazda speed 3 is 24000 to about 26000 so not far from a Wrx awd 3,000 dollar difference here surely it cant be a cost issue . STI's are about 35,000 so I can see the cost comparison there but not with the wrx .Dont get me wrong I love my speed . I just think Mazda could make it an option for the mazdaspeed 3 and or other cars and yes I think it could be very possible with good sales in say Colorado , or other Mountain states area's . IMHO
A mitsu ralliart would be a good comparison aswell .

Mazda simply doesn't have a large enough market share to make an AWD version of the 3 to attempt to sell it in a limited market like mountain states. Truth be told, a good set of winter tires is plenty for a Speed3 here usually because it is FWD. Very rarely does the weather get bad enough to really need AWD over FWD for winters.

For Mazda it would in essence be a "one-off" awd system. And thus higher cost. The Subie crowd can share their awd parts amongst the family of cars. The Empreza has awd, the WRX, the STi, Outback, Legacy, Forester, etc all can help bring down the cost of an awd system. The awd system used in a MS3 would pretty much only be used in an MS3. Thus the cost would be higher than a company that specializes in awd systems.

Price is the only issue. With all you get with this car just because they kept it FWD. I looked at a 2011 EVO MR $41k and it had all the perks I wanted. The 2011MS3 with all the perks I wanted was right around 27k! 41k-27k= lots of mods to blow the doors off a Evo lol

Hey but everyone has their own opinion, right.
